I got an iPad last Christmas and the family is primarily using it as an entertainment tool. Other than checking email on the go, I really haven't seen it as a productivity tool.

To me, productivity means

Portability
Email
Lite word processing/spreadsheet (w/keyboard)
Nice battery life
Ability to take "handwritten" notes

Thinking about the new Thinkpad Tablet. Anyone else been looking at it?

I just can't get over how expensive these things are.

+1

I mean, as Edward kind of alludes to, I rarely see anybody being "productive" with them. Plus most (perhaps not the iPad) that I have seen are terrible on battery life...and I don't think they were editing massive documents on them so its pretty much just reading email on a bigger screen than a phone.

A bigger/better looking email reader? Sure, it does that. Can take an attachment & make major professional looking modifications to it? I'm not so sure. A neat gadget & timewaster while you're waiting at the doctor's office, car wash/oil change, etc. place? That's what I see my use case for it. And that's just not worth the cost over a smart phone.

I'd recommend looking at either the triple-E or Acer A500 tablets as more cost efficient units myself.

One of the chaps at SI* has a EEE and I was very impressed generally with its built quality and feel ... haven't seen any of them here in Florida, but the A500 (Acer) looks very similar.

Yea, I've considered the Asus Transformer plus keyboard dock or the Thinkpad tablet, but the cost always keeps me away.
