Final today. About time. Bullets don't particularly recognize gay or straight people. Good coverage below.

You kill 100,000 plus people in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that's not a big deal. But if one gay dude is allowed to get in on the killing, the world should end.

Sorry Jon, have to disagree with you on this (probably no shock to either of us), but, I'm not sure how allowing gays to serve openly is equivalent to something bad or a low point in our country's history.
As a vet myself, if someone wants to serve this country by volunteering for something that has the potential to be life ending, I don't care if you're gay or straight, just do your job honorably.

But how though? I guess I can't get into the mindset to understand that. I could see if there was at the very least a logical explanation, backed up by evidence and facts. "Just because I don't like it" or "I think it's wrong", doesn't cut it and is a poor, lazy excuse.

If you believed being gay was a choice it might make sense. You would have to ignore all fact involved, but that's clearly easy enough.

I disagree that it is not someone's choice. I know some people that have "tried it out" and then decided its not for them.
To me trying it out is not something you do for 6 months or a year or until you get bored.
To me, bi-sexual makes sense to try out. "Do I feel comfortable with someone of the same sex touching me so I can get off?" I understand that. But swearing off a sex you prefer for the same sex, and then going back is most certainly a choice.
Do I want it shoved in my face? No. Do I want to see hetero couples going at it in my face? No. I wish we could accept the fact that we are all different and all flawed. Each of us are flawed in different ways. Yes, being gay is a flaw. In nature, you would not be able to pass on your genes. That's a pretty big flaw in nature. So what, I have some OCD tendencies. In nature, I would obsess about where my nuts were while some bird of prey snagged me for dinner.
That said, I really do not understand the "we're all going to burn!" mentality some have. How is being gay worse than murder (which we seem to be more forgiving of)? How is it worse than cheating on your wife? Why should it keep you from serving in the military?

"""". This. The people who oppose this - do they think the Israeli army is any less effective for having gay people (I exclude the Britsh and the Canadian, because they are clearly not as "badass" as Israeli's in your average bigot's eyes) serve for the last few years?

This is the question I always have, there are so many other terrible "sins" and what not that Christianity declares but for whatever reason someone being gay seems to be one of the few that the fundamentalists have decided to latch onto as the most terrible of them all. If many of them had it their way, people that are gay should probably be killed...
Warhammer

I wish that things would go back to the way they were. Keep things underwraps. I don't feel the need to shout to everyone that I am hetero, why do some gays feel the need to shout out that they are gay (ok, I get it to an extent, but once you're out, I don't need to repeatedly hear it)?
If I have a party and your date is Steve, Ron, whoever, that is perfectly fine. I have no problem with it. What people do in their private sex lives is up to them. For crying out loud, many straight people have freakier sex lives.
All I ask from gays is that you don't hit on me. That said, if I go to their turf, say a gay bar (I've done the whole "Hey! Let's go to X gay bar, the dancing is better there" that women tend to have), go ahead and hit on me. I'm on your turf, I understand that. But when I say I'm straight, leave it at that.
The biggest problem I have ever had with a gay guy was a guy in college (he was one of the RAs) telling everyone at dinner what their gay potential was. Why? What's the point?
I fall into the "love the sinner, hate the sin" camp on this.

I don't think fundamentalists have latched onto homosexuality because they think it's worse than the others, it's that they've gotten more push back. Who argues that murder isn't a sin? The heat and vitriol goes where the disagreement is.

I've never understood why it mattered if it's a choice or not. There are many things we "choose" to do that should be totally free from government intervention. I was born a Catholic but am now Protestant. Does that mean my religious rights should be curtailed because I made a "choice"?

I'll say it before and I'll say it again. But when I see horny female cows eating each other out and mounting each other like they are having sex on a daily basis I have a hard time believing that there aren't biological factors at play.
And even if there was a bull around, they'd still be engaging in hardcore lesbian action to let the bull know they need some bull prick.
Maybe that's the biological response we see in men when it comes to lesbian action getting them horny?

I believe the reason for the distinction is whether gays are at fault for being who they are. If it is a choice, then they are bringing it on themselves. If it is not a choice (i.e. genetic), its not them, its their genes. They are blameless in it. Why should something that they are blameless in be considered a sin? Why should they suffer for something they can't control?

Just like most other items, I give people a pass the first time. Again, with the example I gave, I was at a gay bar. I understand why I got hit on. But, when I say "No, I'm straight, I'm here with her." At that point, leave me alone.
It's no different than when I'm out now. If a woman hits on me my answer is, "No thanks, I'm married." I've had several say, "That doesn't mean anything, she doesn't need to know." Screw you woman, leave me alone.

I can understand some Christians feeling they need to be against being gay - even if I think that is ridiculous. But I don't understanding making it a priority issue. When I see Christians doing something about poverty, dealing with injustice and promoting peace, then they get around to the gays. Until those issues are taken care of, I don't see how they have much time on the agenda for homosexuality. Christ gave a fairly good set of bullet points of things to be worried about, and whether your neighbor was having butt sex wasn't high on it.
