He was executed yesterday. I'm surprised this wasn't more of a big deal in the news, at least out in California. I can still remember when this happened back in 1998 and was pretty horrified that it could still happen in this world.

Well, Georgia executing an innocent man is a bit bigger of a story.

Was this for dragging a black guy from his truck?

I'm actually more horrified that actions such as those committed by Mr. Brewer could still happen in this world.

The three men took Byrd to a remote county road out of town, beat him with anything they could find, urinated on his unconscious body, chained him by his ankles to their pickup truck dragging him for three miles. Brewer later claimed that Byrd's throat had been slashed by Berry before he was dragged. However, forensic evidence suggests that Byrd had been attempting to keep his head up while being dragged, and an autopsy suggested that Byrd was alive during much of the dragging. Byrd died after his right arm and head were severed after his body hit a culvert. His body had caught the culvert on the side of the road, resulting in Byrd's decapitation. The police found 75 places that were littered with Byrd's remains.

And this gem from Brewer

"As far as any regrets, no, I have no regrets. No, I'd do it all over again, to tell you the truth."

I think the ranking of how much sympathy america feels for these people goes:

1. Troy Davis
2. James Byrd
3. Lawerene Brewer

Well Georgia executing an innocent man is a bit bigger of a story.

"innocent"

But pieces of shit like this guy are why I find myself reluctantly supporting the death penalty. This is what racial hatred is. Kramer dropping a few N-Bombs and people getting their panties in a wad is a total overreaction compared to this type of evil.

Takes balls to kill an innocent man....I like that.

Once again, you put America in it's place with cutting commentary. Keep it up!

Way to ruin it for everyone fuckhole.

Lawrence Russell Brewer, who was executed Wednesday for the hate crime slaying of James Byrd Jr. more than a decade ago, asked for two chicken fried steaks, a triple-meat bacon cheeseburger, fried okra, a pound of barbecue, three fajitas, a meat lover's pizza, a pint of ice cream and a slab of peanut butter fudge with crushed peanuts. Prison officials said Brewer didn't eat any of it.

Texas is now banning "Last Meal" requests.

Interesting. I thought most states limit the dollar amount to something like 30 dollars. Didn't know Texas was an all you can eat type of deal...well, until now.

I don't know what the purpose of this is other than to follow tradition, but you'd think someone early on would have simply put a dollar limit on this to begin with.

I wonder if he ordered all of that with the intent of not eating any of it, or if he suddenly lost his appetite.

Florida has a 40 dollar limit, according to the article that i didn't link to.

See, I don't think you'd even want to eat any of it. I mean seriously, what's going through your mind as your eating what you really enjoy? "Boy, this is great, but I'll never get to taste this again"

I can't imagine anyone would even have an appetite knowing that you're almost dead.

Hell yes, I would order it and ask for it about 8 hours prior to my execution, that way, when I pass, I would have full bowels to empty

What the prison officials didn't disclose was that they drug his final meal behind a truck for three miles before serving it to him.
