Wondering if I have as much right to this free pizza as I think.
Tuesday: Me and a co-worker decide to order out for Pizza Hut for lunch. He sends in an order through the internet and tells me he will pay with his debit card and I can just give him cash later. So we are sitting around waiting for the pizza and finally we call and find out their internet was broken so they never even received our order. They are very apologetic and tell us they will send one out. We have a set lunch break and can't eat at any time so Pizza Hut tells us the next one we order is free.
Today: I mention to my buddy that we should get that pizza and he tells me him and his wife already ordered and ate it last night. What the fuck?
I understand I never really actually paid any money and he did the "leg work" but aren't I still entitled to half the free pizza?

That's what I think. I understand the grey area in his mind is my only contribution to this whole thing was "Yeah I'm in on half" but that still is my free pizza. Now that he has eaten the pizza how big a dick do I look like to press the issue more though?

You'd probably come off as a pretty big dick to push it. He was completely wrong, but it's just a half of a pizza. It's not like he screwed you over for $100 or something. I'd just let it go.

I agree, if you were 50/50 on payment, then you were 50/50 on the shared customer service experience, and deserved to share in the freebie the place gave to accomodate you.
It really depends on your relationship with the guy as to whether or how far you push it. I've got a couple of friends I'd feel comfortable giving shit about it to, although I think I'd do it in a joking manner, but with the obvious undertone that what they did was pretty shitty.
Autumn
09-30-2011, 09:03 AM
Yeah, that was a dick move, but not one you can do much about without being a dick also. So depends how much you like this guy. The best thing would have been to just say something when he told you. "Dude, WTF, that was my pizza too."

+1 on both.
Though he was a dick for using it that way since not only werre you going to pay for half but you were also inconvenienced by the situation... not his wife.

What they said- he dicked you over on that half a pizza, but not worth pushing the issue. Unless your short on cash one day and he wants to get something just say hey you owe me half.
This is simple. This is the kind of thing you don't do anything about, but definitely consider in the future.

This.
I'm sure in his mind, he did nothing wrong, because he received the voucher (or whatever it was) for the free pizza.
Only resolution now is to avoid getting lunch with him in the future if you feel that strongly about it.

I know the guy pretty well. He is usually the guy I hang around during work parties or happy hours so it wouldn't be completely akward. I really like the 50/50 on customer experience line, I will use it to get his goat.

Question: was he somewhat apologetic when he said he used it?
If not, that is the kind of thing that would piss me off in your shoes. Not because the other guy had a moment of instinctual selfishness in using the coupon, that happens. But if he just blew it off when you brought it up, that's just being a dick intentionally to your face. Steal his lunch (or half of it) next time you see him with something good.

Fixed. I'm past Pizza Hut as a place to go for pizza, but it's certainly not $5 unless you get something like a small and/or just one topping. Stuff like Little Caesars and Ci Ci's is well below even Pizza Hut level.

I think I'd casually ask him if he wants to take things home to his wife for a while (until the joke got old to me). He probably won't get it, which would make it funnier to me. I wouldn't tell him, and probably wouldn't say it in front of anyone else - cuz they wouldn't get it either - and may push for an answer.
IE : "Hey, Suzy just brought in some new paperclips for the office - did you want to take my half home to your wife ?"
paperclips, copy paper, coffee, whatever. I'd turn it into a couple laughs that probably only I understood.

Doesn't have to be a chain place. If you found a frozen pizza that's better than any of the chains, that helps me out. I can buy a Digiorno pizza on the way home and eat it tonight, so I'm satisfied.

Well then I'll tell you this sir, I really like Totinos party pizzas. The Red Baron deep crust singles as well. I think the problem with most frozen pizzas is they sort of skimp on cheese a bit so have a package of shredded Mozzarella on hand to sort of sprinkle on during the last few moments of cooking. It's how I saved my relationship with Ellios pizza which I was finding a bit too saucy, much like yourself . But a handful of cheese over top of it and a nice blend of oregano and garlic powder and it's been like an orgasm in my mouth ever since.

So, answered your own question? About the only places I would deem credible around me is Old Chicago and Deluca's and Old Chicago is far closer. I tend to touch up frozen pizza, but some can be decent for a cheap pizza. Digiorno Ultimate Toppings, or their Garlic Bread crust ones tend to be my favorites. There was Freschetta's Brick Oven BBQ Chicken one that I loved, but it's not made anymore.

Went to Ruby Tuesday's today. Had a coupon for a free entree (up to $15). The bill was itemized and split by seat (each person had a subtotal), and the coupon was split by percentage across the seats (so if my meal was 35% of the bill, I was credited 35% of the coupon). Made me think of this thread.

Pretty much the same. Though I really didn't like Domino's back when they had that weird spongy rubber crust. They've since ditched that, so I can't think of any pizza I'll avoid.
That said, there is certainly pizza I'd rank much higer than the fast food variety.

To get a truly great pizza, you must board a flight to Italy. Once you arrive in Naples, you are asked given a 30 question test (in Italian) to even get in the door. I don't know why Giuseppe (if that is his real name) can't conduct the test over the phone. Maybe he doesn't "trusta the phone machine". I can't divulge the questions, because I hope to return some day, but you'd better know how the kinds of grass a cow eats affects the milk and how aged the acorns need to be before being fed to the pigs. It doesn't hurt to know arcane facts about the Renaissance either. After the quiz, you are sent back to your hotel. A courier will let you know if you passed the quiz. You are then led back to the pizzeria, but you are not home free yet. You must spend three days churning milk into cheese, running the stone mill to grind the flour, and pressing the olives into oil. It is only at this point you are allowed to see the menu. It consists solely of a pizza with cheese, tomatoes, and olive oil.
So I said, fuck it, flew back home and ordered a Pizza Hut Meat Lovers pan pizza.

Domino's and Papa John's are both absolutely wretched and I have no clue how they manage to stay in business.
Little Caesar's is the very definite of adequate. It's not great, but it's not terrible either.
Pizza Hut is really hit and miss. Sometimes it's good, other times it's bad.
I noticed frozen pizzas tend to go in cycles. Jack's used to be really pretty good, then they got bad and DiGorno's went through the same cycle. Tombstone used to be decent but then they got inedible.
Jack's is back up to the pretty good again last I ate it.
California Kitchen frozen pizzas are consistently pretty good. I haven't noticed a boom/bust cycle with them like I have Jack's and DiG's.

At the moment I think Cici's probably has the best bang for the food buck in Athens, GA. And the pizza is probably in the top 2-3 here to boot. Shockingly good service, the employees are pleasant from the manager to the newest bus boy, the franchisee (or at least his on-site mgmt) is really doing wonders with how dialed the place is for the past year or so.

I know I'm a pizza snob living in Chicago. But I draw the line at Cici's. And this coming from someone who doesn't mind Totinos pizzas from time to time. I think Dominos is passable if you're looking for a chain. But I'm also a huge fan of Sbarro if you have one in the area. In most cases I'd probably agree with you but I'm telling you, this place is spot on with what they're doing at the moment (at least as far as their thin crust style goes). I can't explain why, I know it's out of the ordinary, I've shook my head at the odds against it more than once.
Somewhere in a musty corner of my mind I recall someone in the restaurant business telling me something many years ago along the lines of how a pizza oven hits a sweet spot for a while after X amount of use. I figure something like that is what's happening here & I'm sure it won't last forever but right now it's pretty solid (especially given the price point).

There's a Cici's in Decatur near the North Dekalb Mall and Lawrenceville Hwy, do you think that will be good too? I've always wondered because it's a buffet.
I was actually just there last Sunday. It was decent. Not great, but not horrid either.

Godfather's Pizza is the best chain pizza I've ever eaten
I've only eaten there once but I remember it being pretty good.

I misread it... she ordered & ate your pizza? This changes everything. Well, not everything, just the base that there is no longer a free pizza. Nice fucking move.
Here's what you do. Call the Pizza Hut as him & tell them you'd like your free pizza. Call back every day, stating his name & his wife's name, demanding your free pizza, each time saying you never received it. Yell at the manager. Then when he or his wife want to order a pizza... Nope. Sorry.
Then do it to a few more pizza joints, telling them they should honor pizza hut's free pizza offer as some sort of "pizza honor code." Soon, they will be banned from every pizza delivery in town!

Or he could do none of that and get over losing out on four slices of pizza he never payed for to begin with.

I enjoy Pizza Hut. Their pizza isn't bad, their breadsticks are solid, and their pasta is good too. My problem is that it just rapes my insides. I just hate myself after eating it. You get that crummy too full feeling no matter how much you eat. Then it makes a beeline for my ass in liquid form. It's sort of like going into a night of heavy drinking. I know I'll have fun but will pay for it later.
Is it just my Pizza Hut, or have they changed their breadstick recipe? At least at the one by me, they have become more 'airy' (and taste much worse).

Maybe I'm misreading panerd's posts, but my understanding is nobody paid for that pizza. The initial order was lost.

Double Dave's is my favorite, it's a small Texas chain.

Yeah, mine too. Took my nephew there who loves cici's for the cheese bread they used to have. He said DD tested terrible. I told him it tasted like angels made it, then he said more like trolls.

It sounds like they didn't proof them long enough from the freezer. Just pulled em out in a hurry when they were running short, let them sit for a few minutes then straight to the oven. It's a QC issue.
