Does anyone here play FOF 07 as a coaching+GM sim? Not like setting game plans, but actually calling the plays. How realistic and deep is the playcalling? For example: certain pass routes working better against certain defensive calls, counters fooling undisciplined Ds, etc. The GM stuff seems very deep, but is FOF's play calling option more of an after-thought? I've tried the demo, and its difficult to tell.

Thank you!

Nobody has answered your question, so I'll do my best. The few times I've attempted playcalling, I wasn't handicapped or anything. But if you get a good gameplan going, it really feels like calling your own plays is going to result in less optimal production than if you just let the automated coach pick from your gameplan. Unlike in Madden or maybe other games, you don't really pick an offense, in that you have every route and running type available no matter who you are (although your qb's formation knowledge limits this), the gameplan literally is your offense. Because the gameplan all boils down to being in this formation this percentage of time, calling passes in this situation x amount of times, calling passes this deep every so often, it's really hard to follow what your offense was designed to do when calling your own plays.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't call your own plays and enjoy it, among the reasons why I don't do it though is there is no way to follow your gameplan while calling your plays, so it's like flying blind.

I've played a number of careers where I've called all the plays, I find if anything it gives you a slight edge, especially with time management (Running late in games when you are behind can be very effective also). I always made a basic excel sheet, sort of a tick sheet and use that to keep myself from straying from my gameplan.
