Hey guys, new to the community here and wanted to ask some of the FOF faithful out there a few questions if you don't mind. I'm in the market to purchase a good american footbal sim and have come across FOF and PFS. I've downloaded demo's for both and equally think both have their own different pro's and con's. What I'm most curious about is those who have tried both, what is your thoughts are on them?
One thing I've read on here a few times is how FOF is mostly revolved around the WR/FL position. So basically a WR/FL makes or breaks a team. I may be wrong but if someone could shed some light on that a bit more I'd appreciate it.
Second, PFS does not have as rich of a feature set as FOF but the presentation is less "dated" and the rosters are current. The sim engine seems pretty good as well.
Has anyone else played both and wouldn't mind spreading some light for a Football Text-Sim newbie? (mostly OOTP player)
Thanks! :)

I haven't played both sims, but I can give you the perspective in FOFL. The gameplan aspect is the meat of the entire thing, and in a way is both its biggest plus and its biggest challenge. It can be difficult just coming into the game and trying to figure out what you need to do with the absolute multitude of gameplan screens. But I do have to say, you can do a lot with the gameplans that have been shared by Ben just recently, an update of his older PB library. You can choose an offense he has designed and can tell you the pros and cons of, and decide whether or not its going to fit your personnel. And once you get more and more into the game, it becomes fun to try and tweak the settings to fit your offense. Think your QB is finally ready for more downfield passing? Just make some adjustments and see if they work on in-game.
The game is extremely QB and WR based, and while that may be a turnoff to some, it's actually mirroring the real NFL more and more. The really fun thing, though, is that it makes your QB decisions incredibly crucial.
The one thing I've come to really appreciate about FOF are the little things that it does. Team cohesion is a great way of influencing your front office moves. Position switches are possible but come with drawbacks. Players accumulate experience at certain positions, and to develop young players you have to find a way to sprinkle in some experience. In looking at FPS, I don't think they have as clear cut of a potential rating, which is big plus for FOF. The more I've played of other football games, the more I appreciate how much FOF just works, and how many decisions it allows me to make in a very streamlined fashion.
I think you will really enjoy FOF as long as you use the resources here, which thankfully are incredibly easy to search and find.

Thanks conception, I'm leaning towards FOF at the moment. Any one else can share their experience?

Have you asked this question on the PFS board? It seems as if nobody here really has experience with that game, and while I am pretty happy with FOF, I'd like to hear how it compares.

Yup, I asked over there as well. Seems as though the consensus is currently FOF, and eventually in the future PFS. Right now though PFS seems to be a bit too buggy and incomplete to justify the price.

It's still buggy but has become very playable!

Professional Football Simulator by Barcode Games is slowly, but consistently developed.
So on the long term...
Professional Football Simulator is worth a look!

As conception said the qb position is by far the most important part of your roster and if you have an elite qb you can easily compete for championships for seasons on end. Which can make it a little to easy at times but just like conception said it does mirror the current nfl pretty well where having an elite qb is by the most important aspect of a roster also.
Edit. And I just noticed that the op asked that question almost two years ago. Somebody went digging here recently.
