Here's the question I think everybody's wondering....

Weren't the singer's boobs bigger than that? Good Lord she looks like a 12 year old.

I thought they'd look better naked.

I was wrong.

A serious question about them... I see words like "hero", "brave", "free speech", etc. which seems to imply that they've taken some sort of heroic stand here. Or at least, any stand at all.

Putting aside the issue of which side you're on in the war debate, have they actually advanced any ideas about the topic? I mean, I know the little one made an offhand remark about Bush during a concert and has taken all sorts of heat about it, but have they actually said or done anything more than that?

I don't agree with a lot of what, for example, Tim Robbins has to say. But there's no doubt that he's a smart guy who's put a lot of thought into the issues he speaks on. That doesn't mean he's right, but he's engaging in a debate. The same could be said (to a lesser extent, in my opinion) about Janeane Garofalo or even (shudder) Michael Moore.

But all I've seen from the Dixie Chicks is one throwaway comment, followed by various apologies/non-apologies depending on which publication they were talking to and how record sales were doing that week.

Did I miss something?

Maple Leafs: Even though I thought the Chicks got unfairly bashed for what Maines said, I have to agree with your assessment. Is saying you're ashamed the President comes from your home state enough to qualify you as a hero? That seems to set the bar awfully low.

I'm ashamed Charlie Sheen comes from my home state. Am I a hero?

Oh, I too am disappointed at how they look naked.

Maple:

My guess is that all the phrases are meant to highlight the controversy--that reactions to the statement and subsequent stuff have ranged from "She's brave!" to "Traitors!"

If you recall, my first reaction was to say that Maines was either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid, considered the country music fan base.

Uh...nice airbrush...that singer chick is a hog in real life.

Hey SD, I think you left out the considerable possibility that she was just another idiotic celeb trying to pander to whatever crowd was in front of her at that moment.

My reaction was that I didn't care then and still don't care now.

Although I would also hit that shit, except for the troll-like lead singer.

Okay, I'd hit her too, why lie.

...cause "incredibly shortsighted"="incredibly stupid" imho

She's a grown woman. She knew they were coming back to the USA, and kicking off their next tour in the Deep South. IF she had stuck by her words, I'd have given her at least the credit for being brave to stand up for her opinion despite the negative professional consequences.

The reason all those words appear on them, IIRC, is that they were all words with which the DC were labelled in recent weeks. So you can't really say they're calling themselves heroes anymore than you could say they're calling themselves traitors.

Hey now, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Amen to that. I don't think my retinas could handle that.

Didn't the girls from "Buffy..." say something controversial? I think they should get naked! I bet I wouldn't be disappointed in Alyson Hannigan naked.

There is no way that is her body. Probably not the other two's either.

The Dixie chicks had an easy way out. All they had to say was that they got caught up in the crowd in London and pandered. If they then appoligized immediately after the performance and said that they would donate the proceeds from their first concert on their next tour to the families of soldiers killed in action in Iraq (nothing more than a big writeoff), everything would have been fine.

Of course, Maines wasn't sorry she said it and completely underestimated what would have happened. And that, ultimately, caused this firestorm we see now.

First of all, how they managed to make a "glamour" shot of three naked women so repellant is beyond me. Secondly, am I the only one who doesn't understand how that particular picture fits the title "The Dixie Chicks Come Clean"? Shouldn't they be washing mud off of each other or something? Besides, if that magazine wanted a realistic cover, shouldn't the "Chicks" be digging yet a deeper hole for themselves instead of simply looking vauguely disgusted with their own naked bodies?

I don't know if I've ever listened to a Dixie Chicks song. Popular music seems to be more about looks than actual music these days and I've never seen any of their videos or interviews so I guess I thought they would be better looking.

listen to the sports guy people:

(By the way, the Dixie Chicks are fascinating -- none of them are overwhelmingly cute, but all of them keep your interest, give you different looks and keep you guessing. It's the same dynamic that worked so well for Blair and Jo on "The Facts of Life" -- you weren't bowled over by them, but you also weren't ready to write them off, either. All right, I'm babbling.)

Tim Robbins is Greek for "cunt-fisted ham"

I hope this picture gets lots of attention because I want to see how this was done. I would like to see a "before" an "after" picture, but something tells me the "Before" picture is under Lock & Key.

It has to be "Morfed" somehow. Using a body-double would of produced a much better body. Damn, the more I look at that neck line the more it looks like those celebrity fakes.

I rather liked the assessement of them being 3 girls with 6 crossed-eyes (or something to that effect, as summed up by Rob Spewak on the Don & Mike Show).

Hah - I remember them. You know they're Katey Segal's younger sisters.

As far as twins etc go, I think the triplets from "Parent Trap III" were better. Of course, there are always the Dahm triplets

I'm surprised they agreed to that photo. No matter where you stand on the Dixie Chicks statements, that picture is horrible.

Just wondering if anyone caught these chicks on that network interview show last night? Think it was Dateline or Primetime, something like that. Its was kinda fun watching them back peddle their comments and bust into fake tears as they cried for the troops and said how supportive they were. One word "PHONY!" I guess when there is that much money at stake with record sales and such I guess you have to do what ever it takes to save your public image. Go try and make/sell some CD's in Iraq you dumb bitches!!

Especially considering after the "apology" the little pig-faced one said she was glad she said it...
