Another weekend of games is quickly approaching! Only a few matchups of Top 25 teams this week:

Oklahoma State at Texas
Arizona State at Oregon
and one of the big rivalry games: Michigan at Michigan State

Although they just lost their freshman RB for the season. As if it could get any worse...

BYU heads to Oregon State this week...I can watch it on a 6 hour tape delay...or find a bar that has the sports packages and beg them to play the regional broadcast.

The fact BYU had to negotiate with the PAC 10 and Fox to get this game on TV and then get it tape delayed pisses me off..

"Hi, we have this state of the art HD truck and tv production facility, we are willing to foot the bill on this and drive up to Corvallis and show the game nationally, you guys ok with that?"

"No"

"Are you sure...we have money."

"Maybe"

"Maybe? Well, what happens if you can show it on your on fox channel, could we, pretty please?"

"Sure, but you have to tape delay for 6 hours to show it on your own station....."

Washington gets a really banged-up Colorado at home this Saturday. Good test to see where this program is - do they take care of business and easily dispatch the Buffs, or do they get cocky and overlook them while thinking about the following week's game at Stanford?

and one of the big rivalry games: Michigan at Michigan State

I think the amount of talking between fan bases after the game might be more interesting than the game. I think their combined record is being a wee bit kind in saying how good both of them are though. Offensively, MSU isn't as good this year, but their D is decent. I'm still not sure how good, or not Michigan is. Robinson has to prove he can throw against a defense that's tougher than a stiff wind. MSU hasn't run well against physical defenses, but Michigan isn't exactly physical just yet.

I'm very excited to see what Farmer does at RB tonight.

Sorry, Farmer is never a running back in a billion years. He just doesn't have the frame for it. Another desperation move and a burned redshirt from Kiffin, and Baxter is almost certain to transfer now (not that I'm nearly as concerned about that as I would have been a year ago, he looks like crap).

That being said, great game. This team finally looks like it has a backbone and found a couple linebackers who can make some plays. Very encouraging.

Eaglesfan27
10-13-2011, 11:27 PM
I don't know about that. He was a good RB in pop warner, and he looked good on a few of his runs. He ran tough on the one near the side line and one inside. The fumble is concerning, but he has too much potential to not get back into the game - particularly with Tyler's injury looking like it will keep him out for a while. That being said, Moody had a nice game. Agreed about the linebackers and defense showing some backbone. Overall, it was a good game to watch, although I was disappointed in the offense's failure to capitalize more.

bhlloy
10-13-2011, 11:41 PM
If you can name a RB who has had any success with his kind of lanky frame, I'd like to hear it. Closest I can think of at the college level is CJ Gable, but Gable was a little shorter and was much bigger in the lower body.

I just don't see him having near the impact at RB that he would at WR. As a change of pace guy and a receiver out of the backfield - maybe. But I can't see an everydown back, and I see an instant contributor at WR. It's a shortsighted move

I read that 20 recruits are visiting Iowa City this weekend. Its under the lights, lots of color (odd sections are black and even are yellow and the fans get cards to make and american flag theme during the national anthem and to celebrate America Needs Farmers), and playing a rival thats owned us. If we win it will be a big boost. If we lose, its a big hurt. Some good recruits are showing up. Come on Hawks.

Big game in the Big South this week. Coastal Carolina travels to Liberty in a battle of conference leaders. Coastal is somehow #20 in the rankings after beating just one good team (Furman) and three weak teams (Catawba, North Carolina A&T, VMI) so this game will show if they really deserve the ranking or not. Coastal beat Liberty last season, so I'm hoping for a repeat performance. ;)

NC A&T is actually pretty good this year. Coastal is 20 in the coaches poll, 24 in the championshipsubdivision.com poll, and not ranked in the TSN poll which is the one the Big South uses to determine tiebreakers.

Liberty's 2 FCS losses are both 27-24 to JMU (TSN #13) and Lehigh (TSN #8). Should be a very good game and ESPN3 is showing it. The key, as is the case in nearly every LU game, is whether or not Mike Brown turns the ball over. If he doesn't, Liberty should take this by about a touchdown, if he does then Coastal could run it up as high as a 10 point win. Considering the way Brown has played in his last 4-5 big games, I expect the latter.

There was a report in today's local paper that Liberty's star receiver was hurt in practice this week and may not play. That would be a big boost for Coastal as he put up big numbers in the game last year. Liberty also plays very well at home and put up 50+ points when Coastal last played there. Coastal best offensive player perhaps TE David Duran won't be playing, either will a pretty good backup. I think its going to be very tough for Coastal to win, but we shall see shortly as the game is at 3:30. Keep me updated :)

I did a post on FB before the game saying neither were top 10 teams. Congrats U of M/MSU for confirming my point.

Considering neither one were in the top ten before the game, I think the entire world probably agreed with you before the game even started. The only reason Michigan was #11 is because they hadn't lost and the rules say teams who haven't lost need to be ranked high. Of all the unbeaten teams left in college football, only three had less respect than Michigan. (Georgia Tech, Illinois, Houston)

This has been an ugly game all the way around from both sides. I think the officiating has been a joke. #2 on Michigan State should have been ejected from the game twice. (I'm sorry, jerking a guys head around when the play is over is every bit as bad as a punch)

As far as how the teams have looked, though, I don't really think you can underestimate the weather. Not many teams are going to look good with a constant 25 MPH breeze with gusts up to 45 or 50 at times. Even the team with the wind has had issues. I still don't think either team is a top ten team, but with normal weather conditions I think this is a far more entertaining game.

I know, I've heard the stories, but to see a guy act this classless on the field and not do anything would be a disgrace. If he doesn't, I hope the Big 10 takes action. I read today Hoke crushed him in in-state recruiting this year. I'm a parent and watch how the two teams act on the field, I think I'd be happier sending my kid to play for Hoke. Just my opinion of course.

In other news, Lattimore is in a full leg brace and on crutches going off the field. It would be sad to see a talent like that have his year ruined.

More players and better average rating. Here's all I need to know about Dantonio in terms of recruiting. Michigan is going through it's worst hire and is 0-3 against MSU. Michigan due to it's painfully late switching of coaches is left with 10 commitments 2-3 weeks before signing day. I would say at that point 18 is far more the norm. ND isn't exactly doing much noteworthy. OSU has NCAA speculation swirling. MSU is coming off a co-Big Ten title. If there was ever a chance for MSU to swing in and pull off a quality class, it was last year. Michigan still beat them.

State even up to that point hadn't really surged in terms of recruiting either despite having the free reign. You see games like the bowl game last year and you start to see the sheer difference in talent. It's why I shook my head last year at seeing them split the conference when you watch them play and they came off as rather pedestrian. FYI, Dantonio has yet to win a bowl game with MSU. The local paper said last year that State seems to the team who gets matched up against a highly talented team for their bowl game. This is basically admitting your team isn't really all that talented. I really hope Wisconsin pays them back for that loss last year and buries MSU.

Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi couldn't get too mad about the six 15-yard penalties called on the Spartans for some form of unnecessary roughness Saturday. NW burns all 3 TOs after a failed onside kick attempt with 4:35 left. Iowa is on NWs 4th and 1. We go for it and QB Vandenberg rushes 15 yards for a TD. Iowa 41-24. Im so happy to beat NW. They are a thron in our side.

I don't know about that. You can recruit here, it is a great area to live, we are undergoing a renovation, and UW is a destination job when you are winning here. He has us rolling right now with the kids he is bring in and will have this group competing for a PAC 12 title in a couple of years. Not sure he leaves all that for a USC reclamation project.

USC will never be a reclamation project

Seems to be a lot of chest thumping by Spartan fans...

Enjoy it! You deserve it today

As much as I despise being a Michigan fan as of late, MSU deserves credit for being a team that beats the mediocre teams that they are suppose to, which tends to go against their previous history. I just wish Michigan wasn't one of them. It will be interesting to see where Michigan goes from here. 2-3 isn't that out of the question. Purdue is the only really gimmie from here on out. I expected next to nothing from this season though. I just wish I didn't have to keep drinking the brain bleach.

Really? They were pretty average in the years before Pete got there. They got really good in the early 2000's but in the 90's they were pretty average to below average. People at one point probably said the same thing about Miami, Florida State, Michigan, etc...

USC was in a BCS game in Carroll's second year, after being average for the better part of two decades. Those down years were due to poor coaching, not lack of talent

Liberty went up 42-0 at one point, Coastal cut it to 42-21 early in the 3rd quarter, and then Liberty put it away 63-27. Nearly the exact opposite of last year's game between the two teams.

Liberty is now 4-3, their losses are to FBS NC State and two 3 point losses to top 15 teams. Liberty has 1 remaining game that could trip them up, the final week at Stony Brook. A win there should leave them 8-3 and taking their first trip to the FCS playoffs.

Yep that should decide the Big South, but going all the way up to Stony Brook is never easy. Coastal will likely beat everybody else on its schedule, other than the Stony Brook game, but this loss knocked them out of a playoff chance I'm pretty sure.

How does that change the fact that someone still had to come in there and rescue them from mediocrity? The thought that a program can't ever been a reclimation project just because they have name recognition is silly. How many people do you see lining up for the Ohio State job?

Nothing to do with silliness. UW needed to improve their talent as well as get a new coach. USC just needed a coach. There is a huge difference

Please do. I find MSU merely to be a decent team and part of me hating them as of late is them being far more rewarded than I feel they deserve, see last year co-Big Ten champs, MSU fans justifying top 5 ranking, and possible title game. The defense is horribly overrated this year as ND did rather well against it and Michigan isn't equipped yet to expose it either. If one is willing to play physical defense against them, MSU becomes rather tame. They are a top 15 team at best and should be shredded by an elite team. Wisconsin should be out for blood since Wisconsin could have made an argument for being in the title game if they had beaten State. I'll never understand why State won that game.

They won because Bielima inexplicably gave up on the run in the third quarter.

Michigan only dropped to #17? I think they should have dropped out of the top 25 after losing to State.

http://gif.mocksession.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/RICHARDSON-JUKE.gifI make more than my share of bad predictions (particularly related to Notre Dame ;) ), so I'll take credit for this one after seeing Richardson touch the ball 11 times vs. Arkansas back on 9/28/09Speaking of highly-touted running back prospects coming out of SEC country - Trent Richardson of Alabama. Wow. It's almost certainly jumping the gun, but I'm driving that bandwagon. He's the best back I've seen since, well, 2 years ago when AP was still in school.

Sammy Watkins 4 Heisman. Change my username now. (OK, don't actually do it.)

Clemson was behind 35-17 early in the 3rd, and came back to win 56-45. They can score virtually at will when they are on their game. Reminding me of Oregon from last season.

I knew that was going to be a tough matchup, any ACC road game (except maybe Duke) is always tough, especially for Clemson. But they pulled it out and if they can avoid the overlook vs. UNC next week, are setting up for an epic road game at Georgia Tech in a couple of weeks.

Part of the problem with putting a Mount Rushmore together for 'Bama is I feel like Ingram should be on there by default and yet Richardson to me is the better player. Hell, at some point one could just make a Saban version of it.

I want to like Clemson, but their D isn't strong enough to contend for a title. If they don't make the title game and they are undefeated, I can see why.
