Week 7 features another exciting slate of prime time games .. Oh wait, no it doesn't. On SNF we have the Saints and Colts and on MNF we have the Jags and Ravens.
Awesome.

As a follow-up to my post in the Week 6 thread about the Ronnie Brown/Jerome Harrison trade being voided...
As Philadelphia Eagles (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/phi/philadelphia-eagles) doctors were giving newly acquired running back Jerome Harrison (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/9731/jerome-harrison) his physical, they discovered a brain tumor that nullified a trade with the Detroit Lions (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/det/detroit-lions), according to two league sources.
Wow.

Haha! Ok ok. If this was a playoff game, the Jets would definitely beat the Chargers, but, since this is a regular season game...they have a chance to not lose.

Thanks to all of the Tebow lovers the Broncos/Dolphins line is now a Pick em game in Vegas. It would appear there is a lot of value in taking the winless Dolphins this week.
Apparently Tony Sparano needs to win this game in order to keep his job as well. I cant see the Dolphins not playing their asses off to keep their jobs for next season and to not let Tebow shine in their own state.

Tebow looks poor in the pocket thus far (huge shock)
The running game looks better, I think as a major result of Tebow. (people staying at home more preparing for him to run out)
3-4, 24 yards, 3 rushes, 19 yards, 1 sack (his fault) 1 of the runs was not his fault.
As I typed this on a 2nd and 10, Tebow stayed in the pocket and threw a pass to Eddie Royal in tight coverage. The pass was thrown about as good as you can throw a football and it went through Eddie's hands.
Prater has missed 2 FG in this game. Dolphine 3-0,
Finishing this up, Tebow was drilled hard and should have thrown an INT on a 3rd and 10 (tipped ball)
The Dolphin who hit him got called for a roughing the QB and he clearly hit him square on the head. Good call. Broncos ball at the 25.
As I finished typing the post, McGahee busts out for a 10 yard run and fumbles. Dolphins ball at the Denver 40.

The officiating in the Skins-Panthers game has been awful. Chris Gamble had a grip on both of Terrance Austin's arms well before the ball arrived with no call. He didn't even attempt to play the ball. This is also the first time I've ever seen a team jump offside and have the refs call the offensive team for holding when they grab the guy who jumped, wiping out the penalty.
Yeah that was just a bizarre call on the offsides/holding-refs will have a lot to answer for in this one after the game is over.

This game sucks so fucking bad. I hate Moron Jr too. Colt McCoy is not going to be a good NFL QB no matter how much of a "winner" he has been in HS. And I'm guessing that Moron Jr drafted Red Bryant with all the fellatiating that's going on.

What? Look, I'm not a Tebow fanboy and if he's the QB he was the first three quarters, he's not going to last long.
But that pass was picture perfect. No, it wasn't a tight spiral, but the accuracy was where only his guy could catch it and away from danger. It was a great catch by the TE, but no more of a great catch than the drop by Willis two plays earlier.

With the absence of Manning, Tebow is quite likely the most interesting thing about the NFL to me this year. I figure that means he'll throw a pick six in OT or something.
I know this much, I'm more interested in a Tebow win than I am in a Falcons win. I guess that's in part because Calvin is probably the next closest thing in the league to being someone I'd actively root for but still.

The pass ended up in a perfect spot, but a great pass puts a spiral in the perfect spot. It's almost like Tebow got the ball there by accident. If Tim Tebow was trying to throw the pass like that... well, heaven help us all.

I find it odd that a QB like Palmer can be "not in game shape" - He doesn't run the ball anywhere, and just about anyone off the street can throw a football 40 times without feeling too much fatigue. I guess either way Bollers performance isn't gonna raise any questions as to who should be starting in two weeks.

Part of the problem with Stafford being injured so much people assumed he would be really good based on limited viewing. His accuracy issues is rather surprising though.
Turner getting 100+ yards I think was one of the safer bets coming into today. The DL might be able to create a bunch of pressure, but it matters little when a team can jam it down your throat.

(against an NFL team, he doesn't fare that well)
How many of those are there in the AFC West at the moment?
Boller? Boller?
The Chargers just conjured the Schottenheimer era against the Jets.
The Chiefs may be the best team in the division at the moment & they aren't really the surest bet in the world.
I'm not saying it's likely, I'm just pointing out the possibilities that's all.

Not sure, but I would almost guarantee Eddie George owns that record.
Edit: George does have a game against PIT in 2000 where he ran 34 times for 98. Not sure if thats the most, but..
Eddie does have the record for most rushing attempts (315) without getting 1000 yards in a season.

Brian Robison just kicked a Packer in the nuts after an extra point - the rule for the penalty should be enforced differently; especially now with the increase in touchbacks.
Perhaps after the next 'play' so instead of on the kickoff it should be wherever the ball ends up. So if it's a touchback it should be half the distance to the goal line, etc.

The pass ended up in a perfect spot, but a great pass puts a spiral in the perfect spot. It's almost like Tebow got the ball there by accident. If Tim Tebow was trying to throw the pass like that... well, heaven help us all.
I watched every play of John Elway's career. (really, I"m a sports geek if you guys are just figuring this out) He didn't always throw spirals. The goal is to get the ball in the spot it needs to get to. It may have been an accident, but we can never know what the QB was trying to do. All I know is the ball went to a perfect spot. It couldn't have went to a more perfect spot.
Another poster above talked about the horrible throw on the first TD pass. I think in context the throw is a little bit better. First off, he evaded an unblocked blitzer from his blind side. Then he ran against his body to make that throw.
It's funny, there were at least 10 throws today Tebow made you could look at and say "no way in hell an NFL QB throws the ball like that" The swing pass four feet over Moreno's head. The pass to the sideline that ended up between a mid range Royal and a deep Thomas. Missing a wide open Decker by 15 yards. I mean, I can come up with a crapload of em off the top of my head.
His most impressive throw of the day in my mind was the 43 yarder to Willis. Not because it was a very tough throw, but he stepped up in the pocket and hit him in stride. That was a solid throw. The TD and the diving catch by the TE were thrown where they were needed to be and they worked.
If he throws the ball like he did the first 3 quarters, he's got about 10 games left as an NFL starting QB. If he throws the ball like he did the last quarter, he'll be the starter in Denver next year.

That was the infamous Denny Green blowup game. The Cards took a 23-3 lead and went into a prevent offense. They were just running out the clock and praying they could hold on. Edgerrin's game is even worse when you consider his critical 4th quarter fumble.
Thanks for the info larry.

His team won the game. Whether it was pretty or not I guess it doesnt matter in this case but with that pass.....
After he eluded the blitzer any marginal high school qb could have made that throw easily. Tebow threw it way too hard and completely off target. That catch Williams made on that was amazing. I have no idea how he was able come up with it at the speed Tebow threw that ball. Its not like he had a tight window to fit that in.

Decent drive for Ponder. He's showing lots of good things to go along with the bad. I will be interested to see how he develops for the remainder of the season. On the second pick to Woodson, he's got to know that it's Woodson there and that he undercuts EVERYTHING, so he needs to float the ball over his receivers shoulders. That's stuff you learn as you go..

This one was harder to look up, but it looks like the record is a Lions-Redskins game from 1965 where the QB's combined for 10 INT's and 0 TD's.
But with the 8th INT, it does look like it ties the modern record set in 1982 by the Bills-Dolphins and matched in 1987 by the Chargers-Broncos.

Why would any coach, or any player, lose games on purpose when none of them would likely be anywhere near the franchise down the road when and if the #1 pick pays off? I've never understood why so many people claim this happens. I can see a new GM with job security have a younger team when they're not going to be that good, with the idea that you can develop players and probably get a high draft pick (and hold onto your job by claiming you're "rebuilding"), but I never bought that coaches and players are actually tanking games.

OTOH Jimmy Graham is the next Tony G. with upside.
I hope the team that drafts #1 trades Luck, just so I can grasp how much someone is willing to pay for him.
I mean, we can guess, but its a fuck ton. Literally. A FUCK TON.
Carson Palmer is worth a 1 and a 1/2???? Seriously?
LUCK has to be worth a FUCK TON.
I would start negotiations with this years top 10 first rounder, the next two years first rounders, then ask about the teams current pro-bowlers. Take a couple of them, a few other picks/young prospects and see how it shakes.
This trade could make the Ricky Williams / Hershel look like a bargain.
Lastly, for anyone who bets real money on football. dont take baltimore tomorrow, just dont.

A lot of young QBs in the league starting right now. Teams have started moving to the younger signal callers rather than sticking with the past their prime placeholders more quickly than they previously did.
I think these pass first offenses are making for more lopsided scores as well. Teams didnt previously pass 65 percent of the time.

Just getting to post this now...
My thoughts on the Lions last couple games:
Aren't there passes in the playbook that are shorter than 15 yards? It seems that the Lions are an "all or nothing" team on offense.
My fears of the backfield being too thin were kinda realized in camp, now I'm wondering when we'll see Eric Lynch start a game.
Was Hill even warming up at the end when Stafford was barefoot & a defensive stop on 3rd down would have given them the ball with a chance to tie the game?
The Lions looked like a defeated team at the end today. Even when they still had a chance. Just like the last drive last week... where they seemed to think that they needed to score on one play instead of moving the chains a bit. They have no consistency.

I guess I'm in the camp of not understanding the Tebow hate. He may not have the most ability of the QBs around the league, but he's sort of the guy everyone should be rooting for. He's not an asshole, he doesn't shoot dogs, doesn't feed alcohol to underage chicks, doesn't need a bonus advance to pay his back child support, etc. In a league where people bitch about the morality and attitude of players, he's got it. Never complains, just tries to win. Sure, he had a great cast in Gainesville and played a different style, but he won. It would seem that his teammates play hard for him as well. Ask Jeff George how important that is. Ask Randy Moss if he played harder in NE than OAK.
His throws are ugly, he may be a bit over the top, he may be a bit self-righteous, but I think this view of Tebow as a franchise savior comes more from the media trying to stir shit up. Plus, I think the more hate he starts to get, the more I actually want to root for him.

The pass ended up in a perfect spot, but a great pass puts a spiral in the perfect spot. It's almost like Tebow got the ball there by accident. If Tim Tebow was trying to throw the pass like that... well, heaven help us all.
I missed the game since we were at softball all afternoon, but I saw the highlights. Has he just decided to give up on trying to fix his motion? He was back to his old wind-up.
Also, isn't he like 6'2"? I don't know if it's his throwing motion or him being perpetually crouched like he's ready to run or get hit at a split-second's notice, but I swear he looks 6 inches shorter in the pocket than he should. The ball looks like it has to be thrown on an upward trajectory just to get it past the LOS. I guess that's part of the problem with his wind-up.
Another great tidbit from Pro Football Reference. Whitehurst joins Stan Gelbaugh as only Seahawks QBs with 30+ att. in a game and 97 or fewer yards.

Maybe Tebow can be the first "closer" in the NFL. Let someone else suck it up for 3 quarters, then bring him in to "provide the spark" and rally the team. Just like most closers would have a 5 ERA if they were consistently used as starters, maybe Tebow with a 105 QB rating for a quarter's work every week would be better than 4 quarters worth of a 60-70 rating.

I think they should just go all-in with the dude and run a college offense for him. Seriously. Dude averaged 8 yards a carry. Let him run it 20 times a game, and then mix in some McGahee and have one or two of the receivers run the option with him. be creative. It would probably do wonders for his accuracy when they do pass.
That's the problem with the NFL. No imagination. It's like corporate America - we're not doing anything new or unique because if it fails, we'll look stupid, so we'll just wait for some other idiot to make it successful, and then we'll copy it when they prove it can work.
McDaniels was probably the right guy to coach Tebow, but unfortunately, they let him buy the groceries, too, and all the dude was interested in eating was from the candy aisle at Walgreen's.

He should have been in Miami to run the wildcat offense. Denver just really makes me scratch my head on their decision making regarding that whole Josh McDaniels hiring/firing situation. But that aside...I think Tebow ends up elsewhere & barring Miami winning the Luck lottery...wouldn't be surprised to see him there.
I agree, if you are going to run an offense with him...use the skills he has today & continue working on the skills he needs to be a complete QB.

Time to take off my Colts colored glasses. I don't think this team would be very good with Manning healthy. The defense can't stop anyone.
This is the same defense we have had. They are built for the lead. A lead hasn't been anywhere in sight this year and the DE's are being asked to change their game as a result. No surprise they have been terrible. Hell even with a lead this defense failed about half the time anyway and asked Manning to bail them out in the end.

I think this is the overriding reason. It's why nobody from the winless teams is getting fired. Why fire a coach and then see the team win some games due to how happy the players are having a new coach only to lose out on Luck? The Lions 0-16 season can be matched just because some front offices will be so hell bent on getting the first pick.
This is the same defense we have had. They are built for the lead. A lead hasn't been anywhere in sight this year and the DE's are being asked to change their game as a result. They have had leads, but blown them. The biggest difference in last night's game is that a Manning lead team would never have mailed it in like they did. This team was only going to regress. Losing Manning only amplified it.
I think Indy's season and the Suck for Luck sweepstakes will be great material for ESPN documentaries. If Indy picks first, it will be a no brainer in terms of being made. The Rams getting the first pick is going to create chaos.

I agree. This season is going to be one of those seasons where the league's integrity gets put into question, imho. Whether rightly or not...there are definitely teams not doing the same things they would do in any other season.
Are the coaches & players tanking? I dont think so in the case of the players...but wouldn't be shocked if, in the case of Ireland/Sparano, they are "in the loop" on the plan to get Luck in exchange for a nice position doing "something" for the team.
Of course...if that conspiracy theory has any merit to it...it could wind up being a self-defeating prophecy as they possibly make some moves due to pressure from the NFL, should the media start zeroing in on this.

His Virginia Destroyers beat Jim Fassel's Las Vegas Locos 17-3 in Virginia Saturday night. "I'm a simple man,'' Schottenheimer said. Well, he does have two shot knees, so he isn't going to be the most fleet of footed person out there.
I'd be furious with Norv too if he called a play that had Gates going to the sideline on a 4th down play. Norv is useless and even after having a bye week, the Chargers still look ill prepared. I was so hoping that the Raiders were going to win yesterday. Only thing that's going to get Norv out of San Diego is if they keep missing the playoffs.

And that has been a problem ever since Norv has come on board. I don't even think preparedness is even a word in Norv's vocabulary and is also why every team he has ever been the head coach of, has progressively gotten worse each season, until he's fired.
EDIT: And the pattern is clearly continuing with his tenure as the Chargers' head coach.

Thinking about last Sunday night, I just realized that that was the first 62-7 game in the NFL since Dan Marino's last game. Now Curtis Painter gets to be the most recent starting quarterback in a 62-7 loss. It doesn't really mean anything. It just occurred to me.
That was the first Dolphins game I stopped watching. I always watched all games until the end. I was dressed in Phingear and watched it at my dad's work. I went home about halfway through the game. After the game I was so upset I boxed all my Phingear up and didn't bring it out for an entire year.
Sadly, that was also Marino's very last game and a shitty way for a HOF to end a career. He was awful in that game, but the Dolphins D was just atrocious.
The only good thing about that game was that it ended Jimmies coaching career.

I see that TO's workout may not have gotten any NFL scouts to show up but it got him an offer....
From an AFL team for $400 a game.

My favorite part was Rosenhaus saying one of the things that would get TO on a team was "a veteran quarterback asking his team to sign him". Keep dreaming, after he's thrown several under the bus, do you really think anyone else out there is going to pull another McNabb?

Terrell Owens would be damn good in the AFL. He ought to sign with the Rush.

With Reggie Gray, that would be a great 1-2 punch getting passes from either JJ Raterink or Russ Michna.

That interview with Rosenhaus was laughable. In addition to what gstelmack said, there were comments about how they expect a call soon, perhaps after a WR gets injured or a team keeps losing. Yeah, cuz when you are 0-6 signing TO is going to turn the team around.
