My daughters have been watching the old Scooby Doo episodes from the early 1970s everyday on the DVR. They show two episodes a day on Boomerang.
I'm amazed at how well the show holds up. Great animation and still pretty funny after all these years. Brings back a lot of memories. My four year old is amazed that Daddy watched Scooby Doo as a kid. She can't believe that the show was around 'that long ago'.

Most underrated part of having kids is helping you, as an adult, reconnect with parts of your childhood. With my first daughter, it was puzzles. She got into puzzles and for about 5 years, I started buying and building tons of 1000 piece adult puzzles, spurred by helping her learn how to do puzzles. With my youngest daughter, it's Lego's. I've actually toyed with getting one of those "architecture" Lego sets. We've got two huge particleboard set-ups in the basement with tons of Lego sets, old and new, built.

And I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for you meddling kids!

I still wonder how they could afford to put gas in that damn van of theirs.

I can't find the monster! Maybe it's because you're walking through the same room over and over.

Well, it was 1970. I guess I was referring more to the expressions of the characters. Some hilarious stuff, especially out of Scooby and Shaggy.

I still prefer the originals to the newer ones. I keep trying to play the originals for our kids, but my 5 year old thinks they are too scary. I don't get it, other than the modern "monsters" are so over the top it's hard to get freaked out by them I guess. The mind of a 5 year old...

How many of the 'new' ones are there? I've only seen a rotation of 13 or so on Boomerang.

I can say with certainty that both of the movies were terrible. My kids loved them though.

Heh. My feelings about Scooby Doo are the polar opposite. It looks like shit, and the 'mystery' solutions never made any sense. It was one of the first cartoons I hated as a kid, and still detest it 'til this day.

I've seen a couple of the new ones recently, they're awful. Though the two I saw did have cameos from Brett Hull and Mike Piazza.

Just saw the Mike Piazza episode tonight. I was waiting for Shaggy or Scooby to say 'Mike Pizza?', but the joke never came.

When did Scooby Doo really jump the shark? When Casem made it a point that since he is a vegetarian, Shaggy had to be one too. No more peperoni pizza's.

Apparently there's over 50 episodes of the mystery incorporated series, which isn't very good IMO. They made 42 of the What's New Scooby-Doo series a few years ago, which are okay but still not as good as the originals.
The movies are just painful. I remember my oldest two got excited for the one that came out last fall, the Curse of the Lake Monster. Other than the fact that the actress that played Velma was smoking hot (which was a little disturbing considering I don't think we are supposed to lust after Velma) the movie was completely unwatchable. Naturally, my kids loved it. Bad TV will be the only reason I'll be happy when they grow up.
