DC, straight sorting by loss total? Interesting...

(and pardon me if I gauged that incorrectly)

No that's not my aim. SoS, Opp. record, Opp. Opp. record is in there too. It's just a strange week.

Don't blame me, blame the formula I use. ;)

DC, when your #4 team has two wins that are better than any one win any team in front of them has, I think your rankings are flawed in their emphasis. Your formula isn't passing the good subjective or objective test.

I didn't create a ranking intending to pick the best team in the country. It's really at equalizing the playing field to measure non-major programs. That's what prompted me to do it and so, by that fact...I never set out to validate conventional wisdom. If it happens that way, dandy. And sure, I like being rated among the higher computer rankings (http://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm) rather than scrolling to the end and knowing mine will be somewhere in the last dozen or so.

I could game the formula to do that, if I wanted to. But it's not what my aim is, ultimately and it never has been.

Dola:

It's been the preface of the rankings page since I started it too. (http://games.sandboxsandbox.com/omnivore-computer-rankings/):

The Omnivore rankings do not care about how many championships your university historically won or how great you were even last year. It cares about on the field performance and that’s it. That was the original intent and I try to stay as close to that original intent as possible, even at the risk of offending my own sense of who is right or wrong in the college football universe.

I think that is cool, and tweaking formulas so that some of them even the playing field for smaller schools sounds like a great idea. But, again, LSU has two wins that are better (by your rankings) than any one win any of the three teams ahead of them have. That is pure on the field performance against teams as measured by your own formula. Doesn't that seem like a fatal flaw to you? Something that maybe should be addressed somehow? I mean it's your rankings and all, I just can't get past any computer rankings that would put out that result. Like someone telling me an airplane is really a candybar.
