I doubt this is much of a national news story, but East Los Angeles county got hit by a pretty big wind storm overnight. Winds reached 70 mph in an area that frankly sees winds top 20 mph maybe once a year. It was a pretty long night and waking up to the images was pretty surreal. There were broken tree limbs and down trees all over the place. On the way to work, I passed through about 16 signals and about four of them actually worked.

Some school districts closed for the day due to a loss of power and the town I live in canceled school for tomorrow. Power has been off for over 10 hours in most of the town (though not on my block) and last night watching out my window you could see the transformers blowing out in different parts of the city. Water pressure is all but gone too. No deaths in all of this thankfully, it was just like waking up and seeing a battleground. I couldnt imagine living through a tornado and hurricane.

Pasadena looked like something out of a movie yesterday. My 20 minute drive to work took about an hour because of various trees in the road. Pretty crazy stuff.

Once in a decade is understating it. My mom has lived within 4 miles of here all of her life and has never seen anything like it here

It was interesting. Im out in Burbank so it wasnt as bad as other places, though a lot of people and businesses I know lost power, but I was recently in the Louisiana tropical storms and it was at least as windy. For a while I actually thought there was a ton of rain due to the noise but then Id look outside and just see trees moving.

Funnily enough Pasadena city council seems to be handling it a million times better than Arcadia, given that Arcadia is a much nicer city. I work with 4 people who live in Arcadia and their power and gas is still out and trees everywhere, whereas in the less-nice part of Pasadena we had the city out the next evening clearing the streets and picking up the trash and power came back within a couple hours.

Definitely a pretty interesting experience, thankfully our new house is completely unscathed but one neighbor has a tree against their house and the other neighbors roof didn't hold up too well.

People keep making jokes about this shit but there is some fucked up shit going on with the weather on this planet. And it just keeps getting worse every year. I kept my air in a month longer this year, it's December and I should probably mow my lawn one last time. December. It was 70 here a couple of days ago. Mother Earth is getting angry and she isn't wearing any underwear.

I took a walk on Live Oak and talked with some Edison guys. They said 41 poles are down between Cloverly all the way down past Myrtle in Irwindale. They anticipate Live Oak/Arrow highway being closed til at least tues/wed.
