San Francisco 49ers, Santa Clara secure funding for stadium - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7310317/san-francisco-49ers-santa-clara-secure-funding-stadium)

So are they going to be the Santa Clara 49ers, or the San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara, California?

Since it's next to an amusement park, maybe they could call themselves the Santa Clara Clowns.

Years ago when this possibility was announced, they said they'd stay the San Francisco 49ers no matter where in the Valley their stadium was located.

Santa Clara is not far away - its the South bay, we drive up to the city all the time. Basically extended San Francisco.

Well, if the Jets and Giants can get away with calling themselves "New York", why not?!

Nothing is far away in the Bay Area. The problem is, there is no quick and convenient way to get anywhere.

Nah, Santa Clara is Caltrain accessible, and reachable by 280 fairly easily. The issue with Candlestick is that a) Its Hunters Point, where the "Bay Area" that no one sees resides - ie, making the Tenderloin look good and b) the access is horrific - one exit of the 101, which is what backs up the artery into the city.

Not a fan of Caltrain at all. They don't even have a stop next to the stadium. The location of Candlestick definitely was not very well thought out to accommodate the traffic.

Maybe I'm spoiled? When going to a Chargers game, the trolley drops you off right at the stadium. If you drive, there are two ways to get in and two different roads to get there. At most (unless there's an accident), it may take 20 minutes to get out of there after a game. Even faster if they keep playing the way they are.
