I've had TCY installed for a while, and tonight I went to reload an old save game I've played before. This time, I got an error saying "Unable to create data files. Please restart system and/or reinstall game."
I've played it before,e but just in case, I run it in compatibility mode with run as administrator, and nothing. So I uninstall TCY, reinstall it, and reboot my PC, and still the same issue.
Ummm, help?
Thanks!

I guess I'll send an e-mail to Solecismic then, and hope Jim can help me.
It just seems weird e-mailing him about an issue from a game published so long ago.

If anyone else ever has a similar issue and sees this thread after a search, send me a pm. After working with Solecismic, ultimately they were unable to assist.
I have Vista, and my issue was bigger than I thought. I was unable to start a campaign or save, with the same issue.
Here were the recommendations in e-mail order, for you to try:
1). Make sure you have Administrative Write privileges in the TCY folder and the Universe folder. (Right Click the folder, go to the Security tab, hit the EDIT button to change permissions, and give the User/YOUR NAME account write privileges). Mine did not have this.
Afterwards, same error. So, instead we tried...
2). Uninstall it and Install it directly into my USERS/YOUR NAME Folder . This is fairly self-explanatory, and this worked for me. I was then able to use TCY again, save games, create files, etc. However, when I moved my Universe files back over so that I could load my old save, it didn't work. The same issues followed it.
At this point, it was suggested that the error message might have been different, but I double checked and it was the same. The final recommendation was...
3). Remove one file at a time, and try, again and again, until you have found the file that is likely corrupted and it works.
Well, that's too many files for me to try, so we gave up at that point and called it.

I eventually played around with it and got it to work. Some of the files were hidden, I don;t know how or why, but they were. I unhid them and everything works fine now.
