What the hell were the Vikings doing? And then taking Kevin Williams over Terrell Suggs or Trufant? Pissed off is actually putting it very lightly....

No offense guys but between this and what happened last year you have to wonder if the front office of the Vikes knows what the hell they are doing. It doesnt seem like it.

Doesn't seem like it at all.
They also let the backup QB while taking a wait and see on the starter.

Last year it was the other way arond. Even though the clock had run out and the Vikings turned in their card first before the trade was reported officially, though the Vikings didn't get the same treatment as Dallas did last year.

Last year if they had been on the ball they could have got the player they wanted, Ryan Simms. Instead of running the card up to the podium, they werent prepared. Then when they took McKinnie everyone including McKinnie knew thats not the player they really wanted. Doesnt send a good message to your new #1 draft pick. Disorganization seems to be the Vikings draft day M.O.

From everything I'd heard, the Vikes got the card up before the trade went through, though they still allowed the trade.

That might be true Troy, but the point is, Baltimore played them like a fiddle. They should have told Baltimore, we are taking Suggs with 3 minutes left, and gave Baltimore a minute to decide, then said FU and handed in their card.

Actually the story I heard/read (I think it was ESPN early this morning) was that Jacksonville was on the phone with Minnesota talking a "fake trade" at the same time to try and prevent another team from taking Leftwich, who was allegedly the player the Ravens wanted in the Minnesota deal.
The Ravens failed to get the trade card in to move to the No. 7 pick in a belated deal with the Vikings. Learning from last year, the Jaguars had a card ready and put it in so that they get quarterback Byron Leftwich. Leftwich at No. 8 is a steal.
On ESPN they mention that Minnesota didn't confirm the deal with Baltimore until there was only 32 seconds left to make the pick and when the Ravens tried to call the NFL Officials they couldn't get through.
So if anything it looks like Jacksonville played dirty, and came out the better for it, while the Vikings thinking they had a deal made their pick when they were planning to (Baltimore's spot) and took the player they wanted, while Baltimore just sat and waited on Suggs, having never "officially" completed the trade with Minnesota, making Minnesota look bad.
-----------------------------------
The background: While on the clock Saturday, the Vikings were discussing trades with three teams -- Baltimore, Jacksonville and New England -- all at the same time. Minnesota officials finally settled on the Ravens proposal, a deal that would have permitted Baltimore to jump up three spots and select the much-coveted Leftwich.
In return for moving down to the Ravens' spot at No. 10, the Vikings would have gained additional choices in the fourth and sixth rounds.
The Vikings insist they turned in their card to NFL officials, indicating the trade, with about 32 seconds remaining on their time limit. But the league apparently did not have verification from Baltimore on its side of the deal.
The Ravens, while acknowledging the trade was agreed upon, contended it was not made official because they didn't speak with league official Joel Bussert.
"The deal was not consummated,'' general manager Ozzie Newsome told the Associated Press at Baltimore's headquarters. "A deal is not a deal until I talk to Joel Bussert, and I never talked to Joel Bussert.''
One Ravens official did insist, not for attribution, that team officials attempted to call in the trade but that NFL officials did not answer the telephone. League officials denied that contention.

The Vikes need to hire a GM, or at least some kind of consultant for the draft....Tice so far has that whole 'Randy Ratio' fiasco, screwed up two drafts, and had a player die on him when he was OL coach. As ex-Lions coach Darryl Rogers once said "What's a guy got to do to get fired around here?"
McCombs runs that team like it's another used car dealership....he keeps Tice around because his wage is $20 a week and a bag of skittles, he refuses to hire a GM, and their gonna coast into the season with ~$10 million in unused cap space.
I think Red can best be summed up with this, my favorite article to come out of last year's football season:
From the can't-make-this-stuff-up department: When Vikings owner Red McCombs says everything must go, he means everything.
After four-plus years of NFL ownership, McCombs is shopping his 0-4, last-place team to the highest bidder. But that's not all the San Antonio used car salesman is hoping to move. Not by a long shot.
Last Saturday, a day after an erroneous media report said McCombs already had a deal to sell his team to Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor for $450 million, the Vikings held a scheduled garage sale at their Winter Park team complex. They sent out a news release for the event, with the words "Everything must go!" in big, bold letters.
When the sale, which wasn't a charity event, didn't prove as successful as the team hoped for, it was extended to a second day. The Vikings were off last weekend, but returned to practice on Monday. About a third of the way through their afternoon outdoor workout, a cold rain started to fall, chasing everyone into the team's indoor practice facility.
At that point, head coach Mike Tice discovered that his team had to work around a rather unusual obstacle. The entire south end zone was filled and overflowing with the garage sale wares, and the stuff couldn't be moved because the sale was set to resume early the next morning.
According to one Vikings player, the team in essence had to practice on an 80-yard field, stopping its plays when anyone approached within 20 yards or so of the south end zone.
"It was comical," said the Vikings player, who requested anonymity. "We couldn't even practice on the whole field. The entire end zone was full of junk. We're all looking around at each other saying, 'This is the NFL? And you can't hold a full practice? What message does that send to us?' We just thought, 'You've got to be kidding?'"
And what merchandise was McCombs so eager to sell that he'd hinder his own team's practice? "There were desks, cabinets, old exercise equipment, 15 or 16 TVs, you name it," the player said. "It was just junk. They even had six cases of Skin Bracer aftershave, for 25 cents a bottle. Six cases. There were little price tags on everything: $1.50 for this, $1 for that. It was unbelievable. A garage sale."
Lord only knows what would have happened had Randy Moss run a go pattern and been tripped up by a case of Skin Bracer (by Mennen).
According to the Vikings' news release, other items included: used weight room equipment, blocking sleds and dummies, taping tables, team media guides, game programs, yearbooks, team pictures, the desks that former Vikings head coaches Bud Grant and Jerry Burns once used in their Winter Park offices, office couches, video projectors, jerseys, jackets and team caps. The sale was the pet project of Chad Ostlund, who is McCombs' executive assistant.
"We even had some of the coaches going over there and looking through the stuff to see if there was anything they wanted," the Vikings player said. "It was unreal. That's something I never thought I'd see in the NFL."
There's no word on whether McCombs plans to throw in the leftover cases of Skin Bracer as a deal sweetener in any potential team sale.

No, but he was in the supervisory role when it happened. Obviously, the majority of the blame falls on Stringer himself. But the team doctors and the coaches bear some responsibility as well.

I don't blame Tice for Stringer's death.....I just question whether he was hired for any other reason besides being cheaper than a hotel bible...and having the voice of the brother on 'Everybody loves Raymond'. Regardless of how much responsibility he had in the tragedy, if any, it's hardly the kind of thing that gets you promoted to a head coaching position.
And don't call me Miss Management.
