Taco Bell Has an 85 Million Taco Shell Reserve Prepared for Doritos Onslaught (http://m.gizmodo.com/5885792/taco-bell-has-an-85-million-taco-shell-reserve-prepared-for-doritos-onslaught)
Look, you can argue this fact all you want, but a fact it remains: Taco Bell's soon selling tacos made out of giant Doritos, and you're going to eat one. No, shh—it's true. Millions of orange shells await.
The Doritos Locos Tacos, already available at a few experimental Taco Bell locations—the Los Alamos of shockingly cheap Mexican food—will roll out worldwide. And then, it'll be too late to resist, you stupid gourmand. You think you're too good for Taco Bell, maybe? Hah, no, friend. That's not how it works... But if you're going to be difficult about it and turn up your nose, try this on for size (like an enormous taco): the company has already mass produced 85 million Doritos taco shells ready.
That's enough for every single person in Germany to receive one. And then another four million left over. So shut up and eat your tacos, which are so Locos that they require a specially-designed holster to prevent Doritos dust from getting on your skin and overwhelming your entire central nervous system.

I can walk to Taco Bell if I want to. Every time I go there it gets harder and harder to accept what they call ground beef. Granted, I only really get it if it's part of the Box deal. I'm sure I'll go, but I'm not really busting my butt for one. I would much rather just go to Panchero's, also in walking distance, or Qdoba, which is next to where I get groceries.

An 85 million backlog just doesn't seem like enough Tacos. I've been running some numbers.
2Billion tacos per year, equates to roughly 950 tacos per location per day. If they release 75% of the 85M taco surplus to the US, that equates to about 12500 tacos per franchise. I'm just going to assume this item will be wildly popular, and if so, shortages seem possible within a few weeks of launch. Especially depending on how fast they can roll them off the assembly line.

I haven't had a good meal at Taco Bell in years. And the last time we went, I ordered the pizza and what I got was so awfully presented that I had a hard time eating it. It looked like someone's 3 year old had gotten into the tortillas and beans and thrown it on a plate.
So, no.

I didn't bitch about the pizza. I did take a pic of it with my phone, but never did anything with it. I was more in shock that anyone would willingly put that on a tray and serve it. I mean, literally, the top shell was hanging sideways off the bottom one, there was barely any cheese, and there was a mess of tomatoes and beans all over the plate. It looked like I had taken it to go and played frisbee with it.

Just got back from TB myself.
Son's verdict? "Good, not quite awesome, but good". He followed up the first one with two more.
My verdict? "Not bad ... but that's not a Dorito". Had one, thought it was fine but wasn't what I expected at all. That's both good & bad I guess, it's really a taco shell dusted with a more cheese/less nacho version of Dorito powder. The taste isn't anywhere near as strong, which is okay since I was expecting it to be overpowered. That said though, it seemed more like a novelty than something I'd be excited to eat. After the sample I ordered two normal crunchy tacos and was fine with that.

It's like a party in my mouth, and everyone's invited. I had a regular and a supreme. The regular was great, the supreme was not (the sour cream was icky), so I had to get another regular to wash it down. I can't believe no one thought of this sooner. And a cool ranch is coming? Can't wait!

I tried one of the regular ones.
Meh.
As stated, the shell is brittle. The flavor I found rather weak. (A regular tortilla is better.) That, and I found out why they put nearly an entire box of napkins in the bag... even trying to hold it using the cardboard I seemed to get that sticky powder all over my hands. The napkins didn't really help much though... they need wet naps.
I'll order the Fresco Taco instead. It's actually not bad at all...

I tried them tonight finally. Not bad but not great either. The dorito does nothing for the taco.
Just eating one plain I could barely taste the cheese. I broke off a little piece just to test it. It was okay but it doesn't exactly taste like a dorito. The rigidness is totally different and it affects the taste.
I put some hot sauce and a little ketchup on it and the whole thing melded together a little better with pockets of the yummy cheese powder but overall not enough.
And was anyone else annoyed that there was no combo for these things other than the "Dorito box"? And that box on ly has one dorito taco, one reg taco and one reg burrito. What's the point...

Anyone who actually thinks Taco bell is Mexican food is apparently too stoned to actually have taste buds or a brain. Lay off the Pipe. TB is barely even Tex-Mex. You could call it Southwestern i suppose, but its not fucking Mexican that's for certain.
I find it funny that a place that touts itself as highly as TB does has to stoop to really idiotic PR campaigns like this one to regain customers.
Oh and someone mentioned ealrier on a correlation between computer/gamer geeks and loving Taco bell. Its a simple one really. most computer gamer geeks are too lazy to actually work and are therefore dirt poor, so 89 cent tacos/burritos etc etc become the staple food source.

That name is the most tourist trap sounding not owned by guy fierri
It does kinda look like Guy Fieri designed the whole thing. I mean, that Mexican Car Bomb Shake sounds like the worst idea I've ever heard. But it sounds exactly like some shit he would make. And I like one of his 8 shows too.

Oh my god, if that's the best they can make it look with a professional food photographer
Also, genius plan to start out in Los Angeles, where you can't drunkenly stumble two blocks without finding a taco truck.
HB isn't LA.

It's a trap. Just like all these burger chains. And I'm not talking about 5 Guys. I'm talking about Smashburger and Bobby's Burger Palace.
To be fair BBP is quite good.

I've been eating Doritos mystery bag 404. It's like a chile lime flavor that would make a great taco shell.

Baja Blast being available in retail establishments other than taco bell makes me really happy. It says limited time only, but I hope it stays forever. Clearly the best Dew.

In what is probably the first time I will visit a food establishment solely in pursuit of a new menu item, I'm heading out to Taco Bell to try the pink Starburst slushy.

They can have my cheesy fiesta potatoes when they pry them from my cold, dead, greasy hand.

The only item I lose is the chips/cheese sauce (calling it dip is overly generous)

+1 here.
The chips and sauce together is greater than the sum of the parts.

It's been pretty vital to our TB orders for the past couple years too. Without it, everything we get -- all three household members -- is pretty squishy. Those chips have been pretty significant in coming up with enough food to satisfy without just adding yet another taco of questionable caliber.
Luckily, small chain Diablo's is running $2 taco specials online right now, so my need to go to TB is cut back anyway.

Quesarito is a regular part of my son's orders. I was fond of the grillers, but can survive without them.
The chips/cheese though, that's such an easy box filler/simple pleasure that I don't quite get removing it.

Looks like they removed everything involving chips, so it's probably a space issue, to make room for whatever worthless thing(s) they choose to add.
edit to add: Upon further review, the chips do remain because Bel Grande is NOT on the removal list. So a lot of the rest of this makes very little sense to me at all :/

I read somewhere that they got rid of anything with potatoes. I am not a Taco Bell person so I can't say for sure. I did not know until about a month ago that they took taco salads off the menu.

But chips & cheese don't involve potatoes.
A sizable percentage of the items removed were under $1.50, that seems like the real reason behind this

I envy all people that have more than one fast food taco place. It’s Taco Bell or nothing for at least a 50 mile radius or more.

Well ... I have like, 1.5?
I don't consider the Diablos/Chipolte/etc (and we have 4-5 of those total) "fast food" per se. There's one local joint that's closer to fast food than not, but it also has a health dept score consistently just high enough to remain open so it's not much of an option anyway.
We do, however, have two Taco Bells within 10-15 mins of each other.

Wrapping a Doritos supreme taco inside of a $1ish shredded chicken quesadilla is a very high quality Taco Bell hack.
