Seriously - he's a tragic figure. He could have cashed in big time from the poker boom. Very sad.

The 1972 World Series of Poker was down to three eventual Hall of Famers: Puggy Pearson, the soon-to-be consensus best player in the world, Doyle Brunson and Brunson's old running partner, Amarillo Slim.
Not the most clear sentence.

All three of them ran together, I thought. Or was it Sailor Roberts who was with them Doyle and Slim?

I remember back in 2003 when his autobiography came out, my bookstore was to host the official launch party/book tour kickoff. We ordered over 250 copies, half of which were non-returnable, and were worried we didn't have enough as it was. The night before the signing, Slim's agent called the store to tell me that Slim wouldn't be able to make it due to a family emergency, and when I asked about rescheduling, was strangely noncommittal.
The headlines about his arrest the next morning clued me in. We eventually did come to an agreement to avoid losing money on the deal, but that incident pretty much killed any interest I had in planning big events. And poker, come to think of it.

You know, i was ready to crucify him as well, but i had never read this article before now.. I can see how he would plea out to avoid dragging his family into court.

I won't judge him on something none of us know what/how/if happened.
hell of a Poker player and gambler though, and I love hearing the stories he told/and that were told about him. If he could argue about it, he would bet on it.
