Wife came in earlier and said "Did you see the antler bones?"

My immediate response was... "what?"

As it turns out there are antler bones about 10 feet in front of our porch. Just antlers. I'll check them out a little more when I take the dog out for a walk but I didn't notice them when I came home (though I really may not have seen them at that point). But they are obvious when leaving the house as they are right in the line of sight when walking out the front door and quite obvious. That means they weren't there when my wife left the house this afternoon or she would have seen them.

Now for the big question.... where did they come from? We haven't seen any deer wandering around near our house but even if we did, it's not like they just shed their antlers (that I know of, not a hunter so I don't really know much about deer).

Any idea?

I'll try to get a picture of them when I go outside.

Deer do shed their antlers. I'll find them every once in a while on my property. They regrow them each year.

Yup. They shed their antlers this time of year.

Thanks, I learned something new today.

I guess I should keep an eye out for deer in the area. I have seen them down the road, just not near the house yet.

Basically, we just moved into the new place a week and a half ago. After 42 years of living in a suburb or townhomes I finally have a home with a little land in a rural setting. Wildlife in my yard prior to this meant squirrels.

There is the chance that fire ants devoured the deer, leaving only its antlers.

That or the shedding antlers thing.

I'd keep an eye on your wife. I think she's turning into a weredeer. But that's good because those are the most tasty for werecrocodiles.

What is freaky is when you walk out your front door and find a backbone and one attached leg with hair by your porch. And you can't find the rest of the deer.

Now that would be freaky.

And there were reports of a mountain lion in the area.

We also have deer regularly in our yard here, and I found a set of antlers just a few days ago in the backyard.

You city slickers! Of course you all have seen more signs of deer than I have in my past two years of hunting them. (Naturally I see them all the time when I'm not hunting them)

Now if you found a dead direwolf with antlers in its throat, you have the beginnings of an amazing story.

The downside, of course, is the possibility of dying before finishing the story.

Big squirrels. Except deer do a lot more damage to your car then squirrels.
