I'm watching the National Spelling Bee on ESPN2, and I find it hilarious that the network incorrectly spells "South" in the definition listing of one of the words.

All that money ESPN pulls in and they can't afford a spell checker?

Man, they hyped that six year old and she didn't go far. Not that I would have gotten that word correct either.

She didn't make the semis. But the twitter feed said it was close. Apparently you get a point for each one you get right on the written test and then the two rounds they do where you spell out loud, get you an extra 3 points and you need 26 to make the cut line to the semis.

She missed the cut but they don't release the scores of prelims. But I forgot they broadcast the rounds that already happened belatedly on TV.

I love that "sabermetrics" was a word used yesterday. Girl who got it right is in the finals tonight.

This just in: Desi kids own the National Spelling Bee. It's awesome, it's just sort of random. I guess it's better than when the Jamaicans were cleaning our clocks. At least it's American kids now.

I was trying to figure out why...and now I know. Metlife apparently sponsors a South Asian spelling bee annually.

That's intense. It's like a farm system for future national champion spellers.

This and the Little League World Series seems to be the only thing San Diego can win.

It"s because they have the largest # of overbearing parents doing this. Ours make quarterbacks and golfers instead.
