I didn't know they rebuilt Hiroshima almost immediately (or ever) after it was bombed.

I didn't know that it was a myth that ostrich bury their heads in the sand to hide from predators.
Oddly enough, the myth was probably started by the guy who is the namesake of the beer I drank last weekend.

Had some of that a couple of years ago. It's an acquired taste if I remember correctly. Thought I may be confusing it with another beer that I had that day that was supposedly from some ancient Egyptian beer recipe.

Dogfish Head Midas Touch?
I'm honestly not sure if that was the name of it. But for some reason 'Midas' is ringing a bell, so it could have been.

Each state can set the minimum drinking age to any number they like. Unfortunately, the federal government passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act in 1984, which coerces states to keep the drinking age at 21. The law does not state the drinking age should be 21. It states any state that does not make the drinking age 21 will lose 10% of their federal highway funding. Louisiana held out as long as they could, but eventually caved in with the rest of the nation.

Chrome (and I think maybe 1 or 2 other browsers?) makes it easy to see "raw" results by using "incognito mode". Open a new window with ctrl-shift-n.

When you ask questions that can be answered with a "Yes" or "No", the intonation at the end of the sentence goes up. I was not consciously aware until recently that for all other questions, the intonation at the end of the sentence goes down.

So is it common knowledge that Hiroshima was rebuilt? I just assumed with radiation half lives that it would not be possible for a rebuild until many years down the line.

I didn't know if I went to Choctaw Casino to watch the Belmont that they'd lose the feed 1 minute before post. Also didn't know if I sat down next to my cousin like he asked and won 1k on a 30 cent bet, he'd act like his day was ruined if I only gave him a hundred.

My guess would be they didn't fully understand how radiation worked back then and just rebuilt like they would have had been bombed by conventional weapons.

The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were air bursts that didn't generate a lot of long lived isotopes. Most of the isotopes generated had half lives of a few days or so.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
A standard tape measure, has the little metal tab on the end you pull out with, right? That little metal tab will move back and forth 1mm (to keep with the tap) depending on whether you are doing a measurement from the outside, where you hook the tab, or the inside, in which it's pushed in.

No wonder kids in the US can't measure. The whole thing is in inches and feet except the tab which throws in the metric system.

Natalie Portman was born in Jerusalem.
I knew this. She also has an Olympia Le-Tan clutch made of Lolita, the titular role of which she ironically turned down in Adrian Lyne's film adaptation because it was too sexual, so Dominique Swain got it instead (I think Swain ended up the better choice anyway - her grubby Dolores Haze is much more in keeping with the reality of the character IMO).
