The International edition comments section is filled with blatantly racist trolling. Sad to read, honestly.

Comments sections on every website are always filled with blantant racist/homophobic/political trolling. Doesn't even matter what the article is about.

He was a douche?
I was thinking the same thing. Guess he has a very wide net to cast on who is a douche & who isn't...
I would have said that King was a loser who made some really bad decisions. He was convicted of robbery in '91 & was on parole when the cops beat his ass. I don't know what happened in the robbery, or exactly in the traffic stop, but he became famous for something that was completely wrong.
I would contend that the cops were just as much, if not more, of douches than King.
I support the police and people in general until they do things that do not solicit support. Four men with guns beating the living fuck out of someone with batons is something I cannot condone for practically anybody.
Rodney King wasn't Osama Bin Laden. He was a drunk who screwed up. The cops that beat him could have simply arrested him and let the law do its thing. I'm not crying over King. I hope he got his life together and regretted the bad decisions that he made (and paid for.) Though I highly doubt any of the outrage and hatred toward him has anything to do with his arrest record.

Wrtf is with you? Thankfully, the rest of civilization believes cops beating on innocent minority civilians for jollies isn't acceptable.

Um...what? His two passengers that complied with directions were unscathed. While the beating went way too far, to say Rodney King is an innocent civilian is almost comical.

I got lucky once to see the much longer version of the video (very early on in the reporting) before they cut it down to the much shorter one that just shows him being wailed on. It paints a much different picture when you see him get up, charge an officer, get knocked down and told to stay down, he gets back up, charges again, a couple of times before you get to the beating shown.

So was OJ.
My cousin was a LA cop pre-and post- Rodney King and the stories he told (joyously, I might add) would make your hair stand up. He used to brag about how they'd just wade into stuff, nightsticks swinging, because someone looked at them funny. He thought this was all in great fun, but the guy was a menace to society. I fully expected to see him in that Rodney King video.
So say what you want, but from the 1st hand stories I was told, the LA Police Department wasn't any better than the thugs they were supposed to be policing.

I also saw the longer video when I was part of lapd and the cops in question where getting the crap beat out of them by a drugged up King. The cops went too far obviously, but King wasn't some compliant innocent black guy who was the target of a random police hazing incident

Everybody involved was shitty, as well as the crews that went out and tore LA a new one during the riots. Anyone who thinks otherwise is looking at this through their own agenda.
I don't miss Rodney King, and when those cops kick the bucket, I won't miss them either.

Yes, we don't want to confuse fact from fiction by ignoring the fact that two of the officers did get convicted and sentenced to 30 months in prison.

He tried to sue the city of LA (attorney was Johnnie Cochran), lost, and is now a boat mechanic.

The cops were too busy beating Rodney. Now if someone had yelled "there's two more in the car"...
Scary that the cops really didn't care that they already had a couple witnesses...

The path he seemed to be headed on 20 years ago leads me to guestimate that having his ass beat by those cops probably gave him an extra 10 years of life or more. Seems almost ironic.
He should never have been beaten that badly, but I don't think that should have made him a multimillionaire either. Hopefully he found peace.

Often misquoted, the "just" was never in his actual quote.
