Anne McCaffrey, ‘Dragonriders’ Author, Dies at 85 - NYTimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/24/arts/anne-mccaffrey-dragonriders-author-dies-at-85.html?_r=1)

So here I am excited to start the newest Dragonriders of Pern paperback that I picked up in the store yesterday, I was checking out the author bio on the inside back cover only to find out she had died in 2011. :( Somehow I had missed that my favorite author had died way back in late November, a week after my birthday. She had a stroke sadly, but at age 85 certain lived a full life.

So this gives me the chance to thank Anne for many of the things that matter to me, some 30 years after I read the first in the Dragonriders series of books. Many of my interests both on the hobby and professional levels originate from that day when I read that first sentence about Pern, so I owe her quite a lot.

So while she has gone "between" now I hope she can still hear me say one simple word: Thanks.
