The other episode that always gets me is "The Sting", the one where Fry gets killed by a giant bee and Leela keeps seeing him return.

It's one of the few things where Futurama can actually beat Golden Age Simpsons- they can do an excellent 22 minute emotional arc. The Luck of the Fryrish is my favorite episode- it just tugs at the heartstrings. The Sting is also a great one for the same reason. Parasites Lost (the holophoner scene at the end), The Devils Hands are Idle Playthings (which is a little bit of a rehash of Parasites Lost), The Why of Fry (showed that the series was even somewhat planned), and Time Keeps on Slippin (the episode is all over the place but I love the ending) all fit into this category.

The Simpsons only could hit that sympathetic nerve a couple of times and both I could recall were flashback episodes (Lisa's First Word: "Daddy" and And Maggie Makes Three, the "do it for her" sign).

All good eps. I'd put Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles and Leela's Homeworld in there too a bit. Since coming back they once again hit this heartstring note with "The Late Philip J Fry".

Haven't really been a Simpson fan since like season 9 but another ep that really works was "Bart sells his soul".

Of the later episodes I like Beast With a Thousand Back s a lot.
The Late Philip J Fry, Proposition Infinity, Neutopia, Overclockwise, Law and Oracle, and Yo Leela Leela. Actually the whole last half of season 6 is pretty darn good. First half was kinda working back up to it.
