Bluetooth/Spotify Question

Here are the details of what I'm trying to accompllish:

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
HTC EVO Android phone

My Jeep is Bluetooth enabled and it works just fine with the phone. What's really cool, is that when a phone call is in session (say I'm on hold), I can actually play my Spotify app and it will actually play the music through my speakers. This even works with my phone's GPS as I tend to use it more frequently than the built-in GPS in the Jeep.

Anyway, for the life of me, I can't get Spotify (or the phone in general) to work via Blue Tooth unless there's a call in session. I checked through the typical settings on both the Jeep and Evo, but nothing.

Heck, I might even settle or some random/blank number to just call, let it sit in a call, so I can get my Spotify (or entire phone really) to connect via Bluetooth.

Any idea how to get the Bluetooth to function between the two without being on a call?

The other issue is that I'm getting radio interference when my charger is being used. I don't use a cigarette lighter micro charger, I actually have a wall outlet plugged into the actual outlet in my GC.

It seems very common, the interference, but the advice I keep reading is "yeah just run a new ground wire."

Are you kidding? Is this even half-easy to do?

I'm pretty sure you can't use Bluetooth for this purpose. Certainly its not an advertised capability that I've ever heard.

I haven't used Spotify but I have used Slacker. Works on some cars, doesn't on others. If your car allows you to specify Bluetooth as a source for audio you are good. If it doesn't, you likely are out of luck.

To be specific, I have had cars that allow Bluetooth on calls and not on radio. In this case Slacker wouldn't work. I'm guessing if a call isn't in session the car just won't connect to the phone.

Most likely the bluetooth in the car stereo is only compatible with the hands free standard and not the music speaker standard(like a portable speaker). You need to run a 3.5mm auxiliary cable, assuming your car has a line in jack.

Static is a common issue. I'd experiment with different cables/charging methodsif you have some other options.

on the interference youd be better using a cig outlet...ill save the explanation but you have a cheap inverter in dash and your getting current bleed.

go into the bluetooth menu and see if its paired and connected to the car. if it still doesnt play the car may not support audio/media playback. you could change to an aftermarket head unit that would pretty easily.
