Well , Now that I have read the reviews and dynasties on OOTP 5 and that STB 04 will not be released I will be buying this game .
Since it seems to be a complete text sim and aside from FOF . Being user friendly .:)

Good game...played out an entire season in a 16 team fictional league...won my division, made it to the championship, had a 3-1 series lead, then my only solid pitcher injure his back while i had a 3-0 lead in game 5, lst that game, then lost 2 more after to lose the title...still ticked about it, but all in all, it was a good time..

If I start a fictional league ,say 16 teams to start with will expansion teams automatically pop up every few years or so ?

no, you must manually expand the league.
For some reason, I havent really played it at all. I've played maybe 2 hours total in about 2 weeks of owning the game. I just can't get into to it.

Easy Mac,
I was that way with ootp when I first got it. A few weeks later, I'm playing it nightly.
Now I'm back to FOF4, with an occasional ootp game. It goes in cycles with me.

I'll probably investigate some more before making the deal .

Spank me for being an idiot, but does OOTP5 do much with player development in the minors? One of the things I miss about the pre-Angelos Baltimore Orioles is the way they used to really invest in their farm system and bring up home-grown talent the old-fashioned way... I'd buy OOTP5 in a minute if I could recreate that...

Money well spent. Just buy it.

It is a great game! What are you waiting for? You have these your FOFC brothers who recommend it, so why not?
I am about to start my 6th season, in my 32 team fictional league.
What I love about it is watching all my home grown players come up each year through the minors and making into the bigs.
It just makes me proud to see that happen.

Skydog could answer this better, but imo... yes. Trade away big money stars for young talent and watch them work their way up to the bigs.

I have not bought it yet either. :(
I might just wait a long time, since my playing time is all accounted for between work, education, and all the different versions of championship manager right now.

Is there only one place to buy it?

Yes it would be great to see those minor league prospects either bust or become great .....hafta wait a few weeks though till I can get rid of a few bills that are haunting me right now as I speak .
I'd be willing to giv mine away if you want it.

Even though I had dreadful results playing solo with the previous versions, I too am tempted to try v5. I gave a couple tries with PureSim Baseball, and really wanted to like it... but I think I've reached the conclusion that (Shaun's) its designer's "vision" for the game is just too far away from mine, and that I'll never ge what I want from it.
Perhaps I can work through the transliteration from the original German and enjoy OOTP5?
Or, maybe I'll just wait out the expansion packs for CM4, and skip baseball altogether.
Hmmm.

QS: I'd be curious as to your reactions when (if) you have read SkyDog's modern dynasty and my historical dynasty?

Yes, Puresim just doesn't do it for me no matter how hard I try to get into it.
Ootp5 has really taken to me thus far. Although, I can't wait to see how hard it is to take the Brewers to the WS without house rules. (No I won't be trying to trade everyone for studs)
With ootp4 I won the WS in just 2 years with the Expos and another 2 years with the Devil Rays.

Can I bid to build a stadium and threaten to move my team out of time or is it same as last year 's build your own stadium.?

You'll need several house rules, but I find the game enjoyable overall and I'm not a baseball fan.

The last version I bought was OOTP3. I've been thinking about getting this new version, but have been holding off because of a few question marks...
Can the game be made challenging with just a few simple house rules? OOTP3 seemed better suited to online play than solo play. Is OOTP5 more challenging for the solo player?
OOTP3, the last version I bought, took a lot of effort to get the financials and logistics working right for long-term play. I think I spent a week testing the game, starting a league, then restarting a league, etc. By the time I figured out how I wanted to run the game, I was tired of it, and still not sure that everything (number of players in the minors, league financials, player development, etc.) would work out in the long-run. Is it easier to get everything working right in OOTP5? Do the financials work? Is it easy to figure out how to have a stable number of players in the minors? Can all this be done in less than an hour and forgotten about, or is it a hit-or-miss, constant tweaking kind of operation?
The interface in OOTP3 was clunky and awkward. OOTP5's looks better, but does it work well?
There wasn't one particular thing that led me away from OOTP3, but all the these little things (and the psuedo-English, too) added up and made it the kind of game that I just didn't go back to after the first week of play. I didn't get enough of a kick from playing to offset all the little hassles involved with it.
Any thoughts as to whether the new version is better in these regards? Also anyone know if they are going to release OOTP5 as Season Ticket Baseball again?

STB will not be released this year due to poor sales I believe.

V5 is much more playable out of the box, there is to be no STB this year as the contract was not renewed by Infogrames.

No house rules needed, and I play a fictional season or two every night.

Are the salaries of players cogent with their time period ie no 20 mil contracts in the 60's or do they stay the same regardless?
FBPro

They stay the same currently, there is a plan for an update which will add the salary scale to be more period accurate, for later this year.

I bought V5 recently. For some reason I love playing out the actual games in baseball sims(Weaver flashbacks I suppose). In previous versions I always quit out of frustrations with the scoring coding(played game no win given to either pitcher, funny saves recorded....). I have to say I'm very impressed with the work that has been done on this. I only had one small problem after a game( computer awarded loss to wrong pitcher). I'm happy. My team blows 21-41 but I'm happy.

I am very much interested to hear how you like the game. The weak interface was the main reason I was unable to get into OOTP4.
