Hi FOFC; long time, no see!
I wanted to drop a quick note and let you know that the charity Extra-Life has opened registrations for the 2012 event and I was hoping some of you might sign up and participate.
In a nutshell, Extra-Life is a charity that collects donations for Children's Miracle Network hospitals around the country. While that is a good cause, the way that they collect donations is even better!
On October 20th, 2012, starting at 8am, participants will commit to play video games (or just games in general) for 24 hours straight! In the meantime, you can ask your friends and family to donate pledges to you for your efforts. You can play from wherever you wish; together with friends or at home by yourself. There is no monitoring...you just need to play!
I did this last year and it was a blast. It made me feel really good to be doing something I love, and something that a lot of people consider frivolous and counter-productive, and turn it into something positive.
I was also able to incorporate my family into the event, getting my kids to spell me for a break here and there, and playing multi-player games with them, and talking to them about what the money would be used for. I could tell that it made them feel good as well.
Here is a link with a little more information about the program:
Play Games. Heal Kids. | Extra Life - DonorDriveŽ (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1007&eventID=508)
if you are interested, please consider signing up. You can join an existing team if you want, or just go it alone. Or, you can join the team that I started:
Play Games. Heal Kids. | Extra Life - DonorDriveŽ (http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&eventID=508&teamID=8401)
If you not interested in taking part in the event, but would like to donate some money, you can donate on the site or even on my page:
Play Games. Heal Kids. | Extra Life - DonorDriveŽ (http://www.extra-life.org/participant/chrissachnik)
thanks for your time, and please consider Extra-Life!
