I'm doing a bit of investigation of a claim for work, and I've got an off-the-wall question for anyone who might have a clue about this sort of thing:

What would shipping cost for 4 TVs - two 65 inch and two 50 inch - from Florida to California? Assume that the shipper is an Ebay retailer and it's your typical ground shipping.

That's the question in general. Now, here's the specific question - could someone ship those TVs for about $450?

The trick here is that the 65 (and possibly the 50) are likely too large for the standard carriers

This is more interesting than my work so I took a quick stab at it.

I estimated 110 lbs for a TV + packaging, looking at some TVs of that size at Amazon. UPS Ground says they'll ship that from Orlando to San Jose via UPS ground for $124 (that's with no insurance). (I didn't enter dimensions, but that might make it more expensive, I have no idea).

So $450 for 4 seems possible, if you shopped around I guess.

FedEx says about 185 for the 50"

Couldn't you call UPS/FedEx and just ask them? Or try on their website tools, using the weight of the model TV's in question?

Looking at Amazon shipping weights for 2 random model TVs of those weights (165lbs shipping weight for the 65 inch and 100lbs for the 50 inch) you're looking at 530lbs of stuff.

I am an international logistics manager...I would say yes, 450 is very possible because based on the size and weight, these would have been converted to FedEx freight (which is even cheaper than Ground service). It would have been booked as ground but at the point of pickup, they would have switched the service

Have you tried stuffing them in a Priority Express envelope? If it fits, it ships!

Thanks guys. Yeah, I talked to another guy who does logistics and he said the 65 inch TVs would likely go LTL (less than truckload) due to size limitations on what UPS/FedEx will ship in typical fashion. He thought $450 was certainly possible.

This is all related to a lawsuit I'm investigating - I think the plaintiff is trying to rip us off by attempting to pass off a Paypal receipt for about $9000 for a TV he bought on Ebay as being the price of a single TV, when in fact it appears he bought 4 TVs that together cost about $450 less than the Paypal receipt. We're speculating the remaining money was for shipping of the TVs.

Fucker.

Was the TV made by Monster Cables?

I'm really hoping I can turn the tables on this guy. You were a plaintiff, now you're being investigated for insurance fraud. Not sure the case is big enough to warrant spending much money on though. We'll see.

I don't think any TV on the market touches 9000$ right now.

This was purchased in 2009. We've confirmed with the manufacturer that the TV was retailing for about $9000 at the time. What we've discovered is that he likely didn't pay near that much. Looks like about $3500. He bought through an EBay retailer (that doesn't exist anymore).
