Maybe I'm just sitting around here humming kumbaya to myself, but it seems to me that there's been a lot of flaming on the board lately. The thing I find most disturbing about it is if you were face to face with the person in a debate most people would never call the other s stupid Mfer or an a**hole or tell people to F*** off or any of the other various terms floating around here.
Mostly people do this because of the fear of getting their throat ripped out by the other person if they said the same thing in the other person's physical presence. Now I realize some people are going to say, "I don't care I'd say the exact same thing to you in person." But I believe most of us would not say such things (sober) to a stranger.
I try to adopt a rule of thumb, if I wouldn't say it the exact same way to you if you were standing in front of me in person, then I don't say it. Its a pretty good rule of thumb that keeps me out of trouble when posting.
Just a thought.

F*** Off you stupid a**hole MFer. j/k :D
Sorry, it had to be said.
Unfortunately that's the internet. You get people like your HM's that spout trash in an attempt to stir things up. The wigs that enjoy the same, but with a better sense of humor. Fritz who seems to like stirring up John Galt and the liberal crew. Andy M who I don't think has ever actually added anything to a discussion other than an attempt to make backhanded slaps at what people believe. But for every one of them you also have you Quiksand, Bucc (in his new format that I can't remember the spelling off the top of my head), Qwikshot (had to get a plug in for a fellow Philly fan :D ), CamEdwards, SkyDog and others who actually add a lot to the board without flaming (there may be heated discussions at times).
It's the nature of the beast.

Thanks. Most folks just type "An" and then a bunch of random letters after that. ;)

If we communicated via the internet the same way that we do in our face-to-face encounters, then the internet would be as boring as our actual lives are.

Drake,
Is it really that exciting to say those things on the internet? I mean .. . where's the rush? Its not like there are any potential consequences to your behavior other than maybe being banned.
Several people who make agressive posts don't even list where they are from in their location. OHHH BOYYY I'm being soooo bad I've cussed in my post. Understand I'm not attacking you and I've never seen you exhibit this sort of behavior. I'm just addressing the point in your post. If cussing on the interent is a form of excitement then life truly is boring.

My point is. Wow I'm so big and bad and I've cussed this guy out on the internet and I don't even have the balls to say where I'm from. I mean . . . I put where I'm from. If someone takes anything I post offensive enough where they would like to take it up in person I'm more than willing to give them exact directions on where to find me. That's what I mean

I just like to find a forum where I can (try to) be cocky and funny, and others can be cocky and funny back.

I've posted on this subject several times in the past, or at least on a similar vein. It seems that many people do not understand how the internet differs as a communication medium. There is no inflection, no body language, no difference in volume, no emphasis...nothing but smilies and italics to emphasize your words. It is far easier for your message to be misrepresented, misunderstood, and generally confused than in direct, face-to-face contact.
I wonder how certain internet "personalities" would do in a real-life, face-to-face environment.
In any case, it's obvious that many people tend to "pop off" more because of their invisibility on the net, which is what I think Mountain is getting at. But I doubt it'll change any time soon.
