FOF4

Hired as the Head Coach/GM of the St. Louis Rams in 2002. I've been to 6 straight playoffs and have only made it to the divisonal championship 2 times, losing both times.

I'm in year 2008 and on my way to the playoffs again, this time I have 3 starters out for the season and have that 'feeling' I'll be eliminated early due to the players of mine who are out.

If I again don't make it to the Super Bowl, would you keep me aboard for another year or say, "It's time for a change?"

I'm thinking I might look for another job elsewhere.

Possibly.. The main problem I see there is that Franchise being unable to get over the hump come Playoff Time. 7 straight Playoff Appearances and not even 1 trip to the Big Game?.... Has your team been the favorite to win the NFC and/or had Homefield on any of those occasions?

You may want to go ahead and check the Want Ads to get yourself up to speed on what's available out there... I hear White Castle is hiring.. :D

I would never fire a coach in this position. In the current NFL though, you might want to look for another job before you were let go.

In my opinon, making the playoffs is the break-even point. So you've at least qualified for the playoffs for 7 straight years, advancing within a game of the super bowl twice. Odds are you're better than someone I could replace you with.

I agree CT, but it's all about expectations.. When you make the Playoffs that many times, advancing to the next level becomes the one and only goal.. Look at the T-Wolves as a great example.. Sure they've had some good clubs the past few years, winning 50+ Games on a regular basis and everything, but it's about time for the franchise to get beyond the point of making an annual playoff appearance.

Ask Denny Green if he thinks you should be fired :)

Should Bill Cowher be fired? At least he has 1 Super Bowl appearance.

I don't get firing coaches who always get the team to the playoffs. I would keep you on.

But hey Mizzou, this is a Solecismic Game, keep that in mind..

There's a guy in my UCF-TCY Dynasty that has coached the University of Alaska-Anchorage to a 10-100 Record in his 10 Seasons in Anchorage, with his best season one in which the Seawolves went 2-9.

And guess what, he's still around... Terrible Record, Nasty Ratings, and everything..

But everybody in the NBA makes the playoffs. only 12 of 32 NFL teams make it, it's a much larger achievement. I told you, if I were running the team there is no way I would fire you.

You have to make the playoffs to win a championship. You have consistently gotten my team to the playoffs. You've come close to the championship twice. In my opinion, you can get it done.

This is funny, as I was just having this discussion on a local Rams radio program yesterday. Here is a transcript.

Me: Dude, this guy sucks. I don't care that he gets to the playoffs. With all of the great players the Rams have, I could get to the playoffs.

Host: But what about all of the injuries?

Me: Oh yeah the injuries. Every time we get killed in the playoffs we hear all about the injuries. Cry me a river. What team doesn't have some injuries? Get some good backups and win some damn games ya know.

Host: Well answer the question, keep him or fire him if the Rams lose in the playoffs?

Me: FIRE HIM FIRE HIM FIRE HIM. If we don't get to the Super Bowl this year he has to go. He sucks, I mean suuuuucks. This guy makes Brooks look like freakin Vince Lombardi. War new Rams coach. Out.

Your fired! we need someone to take us to the next level. Perhaps bringing in some new blood will help. Maybe we could trade our draft picks for a coach......

Tony Dungy got fired for being a winning coach that just couldn't make it to the next level... same thing with Steve Mariucci... Dennis Green... etc., etc. In most cases, however, said firings don't really work out. I think the Broncos and the Bucs are the only team in recent memory that really profited from firing winning coaches who consistantly fell short of winning a championship.

LOL! That's why I love this site, great responses.

There were plenty of jobs available for me after my 2007 season, so that shouldn't be a problem. :)

Has your team been the favorite to win the NFC and/or had Homefield on any of those occasions?

I'm at work, but yes on many occasions. I've won my division every year but the first.

Ok, I'm feeling much better! ;)

Hey, I'll leave St. Louis and become the Illinios bball head coach. :)

Would be a neat addition to FOF!

I have the highest winning % of any team over the span of my franchise. Season tickets are at 63,500 out of 65,000. The fans are happy, but I haven't produced.

Reminds me of the Blues, who have been to 26 playoffs in a row, but no cup to show for it.

Could be a good time for me to skip town as I'm losing alot of good players next year due to me putting all my eggs into this year's basket.

After my season is over (could be tonight), I'll post a poll and the FOFC boys/girls can vote me to stay or leave.

I would give you a 3-year extension and tell you to win it all within these 3 years or be let go.

Is it not right to get drunk with the cheerleaders?

7 straight years, 6 division titles and no trip to the big game? I'd have to "see" the games if you were my GM or coach, but I think it'd be time to let you go. At some point the team chemistry doesn't work and you have to make a tough decision.

I wouldn't enjoy firing you. I'd wish you well and speak highly of you wherever you went. . . but I'd expect a title game appearence NOW or you'd be moving on to a different team.

Wait, maybe this is a Denny Green like situation...

You haven't outlined your plans to sue to get ownership of the team in a book you've written, have you?

I didn't get the rest of my season in last night, too busy hanging up new blinds. Trying tonight after golf league, weather permitting.

I made a mistake above, this is my 7th year in a row going to the playoffs (2008).

My record is:

1st at 79-33 0.705 winning percentage
Only 2-6 in the playoffs. :(

4 division finals
1 Conference final
1 Wild Card round

With 4 key injuries, I don't think I can beat Carolina at their house. Who knows? Dallas has the worst record at 40-72. Jerry Jones is intrigued by my firing rumors. :)

Well, I'm back into football and FOF4. I went to the playoffs again in 2010, won my first game (wildcard), then lost the division final to Seattle, who beat me 3 times this year. :( My starting QB was injured in the previous game and my backup threw 4 int's this game.

(2002-2010)

(102-42-0) 0.708

9 playoffs (5-9) 0.357

Still ZERO Super Bowl appearances, although I'm the only team to goto the playoffs all 9 years.

Dallas, who has never been to the playoffs (52-92) and has the worst record in the league, fired their GM once again.

I'm thinking it's time for me to go, but I do have most of this team back again in 2011.

Did the Rams suck when you took over? How is the salary cap, roster turnover? Are you a great GM in making personal decisions?

Also, how is the coaching staff (coordinators)? Have they been changed? If not, maybe a shake-up in one of them. You seem to have the skills to make us a championship contender, I would question the coordinators and how long you can maintain this winning roll (how you are doing in personal decisions).

Well, the Rams were 7-9 in 2002. They did have a good team though. My scores have been about average throughout the 9 years as GM. This last year tied an all time low score of 53, so I am losing money. I think I've done well in 9 years, if fact next year most of my starters are signed, so I think 10 in a row is reachable. I've had 3 different coaches and 2 different scounts, with last year cleaning house and signing 2 young guys (coach & scout).

My coach is going to be good and my scout seems solid in player evauls.

[b]Although Dallas needs a GM and it would be quite a challenge to try and build a team who has never been to the playoffs yet. Of course I run a risk of getting fired at Dallas due to the games quick firing when switching teams. For that matter, the Rams might fire me next year. ;)

Even though I want the Dallas job, I'm thinking one more year??
