Iraqis Say U.S. Troops Fired on Civilians (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/29/sprj.irq.main/index.html)

Not sure how this thing started--my sense is that our troops were probably justified--but one piece of info caught my eye. Why are the 82nd Airborne forces using an elementary school as a base? Isn't this the same kind of thing we were angry about, Saddam's troops placing themselves in civilian areas?

Edit: Thanks Fritz for the catch.

NM, it was the 82nd according to the article, not the 101st.

I think the media was the one highlighting the use of schools. My guess the troops on both sides have used it because it is big enough to handle their needs.

One reason why we might have raised an eye at enemy forces in a school is because the Iraqis were making an issue of us strinking "non-military" targets. of course, when you have troops or supplies in them, the building become military.

For instance, there is nothing worng with using a hospital as a base, so long as you don't pretend that it is still a hospital.
