Original Draft Thread (http://operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=84617)
Original Poll Thread (http://operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=84669)

Wanted to get the signup thread going as we're starting to get into fantasy football time and I've personally got a busy month coming up.

Not looking for a specific number of participants but it would be great if we could get 12+ as this is truly a 'more the merrier' situation.

We ironed some of the kinks out and got some good feedback and this is where we stand:

FILM TO BE RE-MADE
PRODUCER
DIRECTOR
STAR
STAR
STAR
WILD CARD
WILD CARD
SCORE/SOUNDTRACK
BUDGET

- 3 Actor/Actress slots and 2 Wild Cards. Allows more flexibility. WildCard can still be literally anything
- SCORE/SOUNDTRACK stays as (imho) music is very important to film
- BUDGET is now it's own pick (so people choosing first don't get screwed) so for instance:

250+ mil
200
180
160
140
120
100
80
60
40

So when someone takes 250+ it's off the board, someone takes 100 mil it's off the board etc.

Any other thoughts/feedback/improvements are more than welcome.

There was some discussion about taking the original choices off the board for this version. I don't think that's necessary. Heck, if you think you can do a better job remaking "Jaws" go for it (you probably can)

We'll leave this thread open till the weekend or as long as necessary to get a good amount of participants

Robert Rodriguez with an ambitious project to produce a film created by his idol Sergio Leone. Rodriguez has convinced Hollywood and spaghetti western icon Clint Eastwood to direct (one of) the film(s) that made him a superstar.

Brad Pitt to play the role of the iconic 'Man With No Name' also known as 'Blondie' in the film. Pitt's versatility as an A-list actor and his work playing Jessie James in the film The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford was the catalyst for Grover, Rodriguez and Eastwood offering him the role.

Period piece specialist Daniel Day-Lewis has agreed to play 'The Bad' Angel Eyes, originally portrayed by western veteran Lee van Cleef. Angel Eyes is the bad guy that does evil with a warm smile on his face. Nobody excels as this type of villain like Daniel Day-Lewis does.

Hollywood quirky-man Benicio Del Toro will fill the role of the somewhat comedic, somewhat pathetic, but always confident Tuco Ramirez. Del Toro has the quality, able to play the underhanded, hot-headed role that Eli Wallach mastered in the original. Name-calling, groveling, appeasing, and dirty tactics are all trick in Del Toro's book.

In a lesser, but important role, Johnny Depp plays the Alcoholic Union Captain. A man who knows he's beaten in battle, but knows he must continue on regardless. He fills his men with beer, wine and whiskey before battle to get their spirits up even if he knows they are walking into certain death. Depp can play the desperate but confident Captain perfectly.

Legendary composer Ennio Morricone returns to score the remake, as he did with the original. Nobody else could possibly fill his shoes. The original film has one of the most iconic and memorable film soundtracks of all time. It only makes sense that Morricone would compose again.

Chris Nolan's chief cinematographer and 2010 Oscar Winner for shooting Inception, Wally Pfister, takes up this western epic, making a rare departure for Nolan's side. Pfister's vision and creativity will be massive for this film, with the number of dramatic and scenes between the three main characters. His cinematography will be able to capture the emotions of the characters, while also capturing the desert and small western settlements like nobody else could possibly do.

<table width="100%"><tr><td WIDTH="50%">Score and Musical Arrangement <br>by ENNIO MORRICONE (www.imdb.com/name/nm0001553/)</td><td WIDTH="50%"><iframe width="300" height="200" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZNGe7iK1O-4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></td></tr></table>

I would like to return.

Not sure where we want to limit it, but if we have more people who want to join than we have spots for (at least the number we had last draft), I would be for expanding the number of teams to 12 or even 14. The movie world is expansive enough, and I personally enjoyed imagining each movie being put forth the last time. I can only imagine it getting better with an expanded number of movies.

Since you asked for suggestions...

Rather than draft, why not just people pick their projects and then release them at a certain date.

Kills the whole need for people needing to be here at a particular time, people can tease elements of what they want as they know it,

In real life, Jonah Hill works on one movie and then leaves to work on another one. Halle Berry can wrap up post-production of her one indie flick before going to work on X-Men Reloaded or whatever the heck. Seems like there's no real reason to restrict the field in that way artificially. I feel like the FOFC audience is "critical" (heh) enough to sniff out the stuff they don't like and if five people pick the same guy, welp...seems like those five folks are probably gonna either get skewered the public for their reaches accordingly (or rewarded, as it were.)

adds more suspense since we won't know what direction people will go,

minimizes the whole peanut gallery factor of folks shitting on your shitty picks as you make them

and lastly, it seems unrealistic (and unfair) to limit the budgets.

I doubt everyone would pick $250m even if it were fair game for everyone to have it, because not every project would require that kind of money and I think given that literally anyone can vote and given the open-ended nature of voting; there seems to be no real reason to make it so limited other than that's how we've always done it.

I realize it sort of makes it less of a "draft" game if there's no actual draft, but...seems these improvements would make it work better, more realistic and ultimately, it becomes a contest of pitching movie ideas to studio execs (aka, the voters) and seeing which ones get made and which ones don't.

NorvTurnerOverdrive
08-21-2012, 08:02 PM
that would probably be an idea best explored prior to 15 people signing up for a draft. not that i don't see what you're saying but

a. drafts are fun
b. while you may have an idea in mind with picks that are off others radar there is always 'the fear' looming that you could get trumped

for instance, i have an idea that's completely contingent on one (fairly coveted) person. if i lose out i'll have to go with plan b (note: there is no plan b) but imo it's part of the fun

I think maybe after two drafts well have hit that point. I personally was only able to come up with a director, one I would watch do almost any film at this point, and possibly a movie they would fit but wouldnt mind throwing that idea out to the board for actors and other suggestions eventually.

I agree with norv, I can only speak for myself, but the reason I get into this is because we're drafting. That's what makes the entire thing fun. Submitting projects doesn't have that same excitement.

Flash Gordon came on last night on one of the movie channels I have. I admit I stopped to watch it to remind myself what it was like, simply because of your project choice the last time.

In retrospect, I actually think it's an excellent choice to remake, except for one thing--it just wasn't as catchy as some of the other remake choices. I really feel the movie we choose, above and beyond all other choices, is the primary mover when it comes to votes.

+1.

I like DC's out of the box thinking, but as a past participant, there was nothing more fun than watching the draft go by pick by pick and watch each draftee build their project. It's different than drafting a fantasy football team. It was just more imaginative.

I think you'll see what we mean once we get going, DC.

Drafting was a great way to go. I had in my mind what i was looking for. I got robbed a couple times on selections. So I had to readjust my gameplan. Kind of if an actor had read the script and said no. The production team would have to adjust on the fly.
