View Full Version : Best Sports Uniforms "Contest" Courtesy of Uni Watch

For those who don't know, Paul Lukas is a guy who runs a website called Uni Watch (http://www.uni-watch.com/), which is just a fun site that catalogs different sports uniforms, tracks changes, gives some historical background at times, etc. Thankfully, it also doesn't take itself very seriously.

Lukas also writes for ESPN.com at times, and right now has a series of columns underway where he is ranking the current uniforms of all teams of the four major sports from worst to first. He gives a breakdown, links some pictures, nothing major. While I was thinking of where my teams would land (and having no care in the world if they were to actually be ranked poorly), I was guessing my teams would fare pretty well overall. But what's that mean without comparing it to others?

I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone stacks up...who has the most hideously dressed team and who has the best? Is there a geographic concentration? So post your favorite NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL teams and we'll add up all the scores as the rankings are revealed. Very simple...highest total "score" (by aggregate ranking) loses, lowest score wins. What do you win? Nothing, this isn't a real contest, it's just a pointless message board thread.

If you don't have a favorite team in a particular sport, choose the one you identify with closest. And if there's still not one, don't worry...we can see who has the best/worst 2 team/3 team score. If no one else wants to participate, I'll win and lose which I'm okay with.

That's not too big of a dealbreaker to me. It's a "storm warning" flag, more or less and typically tropical storm warnings precede hurricane warnings anyway. It'd be kind of a crowded design with the more proper two flags.

At least they didn't end up as the Ice Hogs or some similar nonsense that was briefly considered because of the arena being built on hog magnate Wendell Murphy's land.

Don't have a dog in the NHL or NBA fight, except that I used to play with the Red Wings in NHL 92 and the Jazz have the best uniforms in the NBA to me (because the Hawks won't go back to their 80's jerseys!)

The Bengals should do horrible and the Reds should do well (IMO)

I think the Sharks are getting short shrift here. They started the teal movement, and their black armor jerseys are amazing. I don't know that they need to be a ton higher, but top half for sure.

I maybe in the minority here, but I hate the Jersey's they wear now. Just something about them that seem...oh, bland I guess.

I loved their old look though. Anything they wore before moving to Phoenix would be in my top 5 NHL jersey's.

MLB Royals
NFL Chiefs
NHL Blues
NBA Lakers

Kinda surprised the Royals have found their way to the top 25. Then again, the Dodgers are in the top 25, so apparently the classics never go out of style.

Along that line, I'm surprised the Chiefs were ranked where they were. The uniform basically hasn't changed in 50 years. Granted, I don't put the Chiefs uniform up with the Cowboys or the Yankees, but it's still solid after all these years.

Can't disagree with his comments on the Blues. Wish they would go back to their '80s or '90s designs. The current unis are horrible.

The home jerseys are absolute classics and worthy of top 10 in all of sport.

However, the road jerseys are boring and generic, tho, with ugly block lettering and nothing to set them apart from a dozen other teams. The third jerseys are decent.
