The tennis pro calls it quits at the age of 30. His window at the top was really short. He took the mantle from Agassi/Sampras as top player in the world just as Federer then Nadal emerged. Now he'll come back here to Austin and spend his time banging Brooklyn Decker like a screen door in a hurricane.

Oh wow. Still a very solid career for the guy, wonder how he ranks all-time. Is he just the Jim Courier of his era with a much bigger serve? I wonder how history will view him. Obviously one of the best males in American tennis over the past decade.

I can thread jack here, as it is my thread. I put 2+2 together on your new screen name when I went back and searched to see if we had an omnibus tennis thread, and 'Young Drachma' kept popping up. I kept thinking, WTF is Young Drachma? :)

hahahahahahaha.... yeah. The name is an inside joke from FOBL that sorta kept being thrown around after I decided that the only thing better than a Young Money rap nickname, was a rap nickname that invoked a dead European currency.

Dark Cloud was from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and was mostly a name I wanted to drop but was so "well known" as DC that I didn't want to drop it without something that worked better.

So I'm sure I'll confuse people for a few weeks, but...it'll start to be obvious when all of the normal dorky shit I do pops up. ;)

The Drachme ain't dead. If the Greeks keep this up, it will arise once again, soon...

Wow, that went off topic fast! Almost the same speed Roddick went from a top10 player to a non-top10 player over the last couple of months. He still won a couple of ATP tournaments, which isn't peanuts of course, but in the major tournaments he's had trouble beating opponents. One final run in this tournament would be cool to call it a day, he's got a relative cakewalk leading up to the 4th round clash with Del Potro.

I'll miss Roddick for sure and during that Wimbledon match a couple of years again, he almost willed himself to win over the greatest Wimbledon player ever. He was dedicated to his craft. I'd love to see him make one last run during the tournament.

He's playing out his Final US Open, THEN retiring. just so people don't think he simply quit as the Open begins.

People always underestimate his past/recent success. 9 years straight within the top 10. This guy was an amazing player for a long time. He just wasn't Agassi or Sampras like most of us were hoping he would be when he won it at 19. Few are.

I couldn't find an old tennis thread and am not sure if we even have one, but Murray and Djokovic are playing a hell of a match in the men's final today/tonight (gone on for over four and a half hours now).

I can't even find it on TV. What channel?

It was on CBS but not listed on DirectTV for some reason. I finally figured it out after 15 minutes of searching

Can't believe a British guy finally won a major. Awesome.

CBS.

But it just ended, Murray won 7-6 (10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2. It looked like Djokovic wasn't moving quite so well in the last few games but before that it was a brilliant match. So many long 20-30+ shot rallies, one at least one of 50 shots.

My cable box's channel guide had it listed from 4pm to 7pm, they didn't anticipate the match lasting almost five hours.

Yeah I saw the score on ESPN.com but was going to try to watch the last few minutes. Couldn't find it. I just assumed it wouldn't be on broadcast TV so I was checking every channel but those.
