I have been posting here for a very long time and this is the saddest day I have ever seen here. I had lots of friends here and people I admired, but I never thought we could be so foolish as we have been today. Many people posting would consider me a friend if you knew my other name on this board. I cannot tell you that because it would certainly ruin my reputation. I just wanted everyone to know that one of the first 200 members of FOFC is extremely disappointed in the way we handled this. I will address issues as they come up, but there is not justification for this. None. Well maybe vindictiveness.

But I did look around the threads and found out about the PM abuse. So, I get it now. All I'm saying is that recently he hadn't been trolling. But people did troll after any of the threads he posted.

I thought he was a troll back before the college football forum opened. But he had cleaned up his act to a tolerable extent.

Honestly, I don't mind a pet troll here. As long as we designate HM as the pet troll, I don't have a problem. I love to debate, I like to talk shit, and I guess I have a mean streak that makes me like to pick on those who are intellectually inferior to me. Horns allows me to do all of that.

Seriously.. I'd rather read 5 threads about Horns and dating than another flippin' Hattrick thread. At this point, if you want to avoid the flame wars, you know to stay out of the thread. I really don't have a problem with bringing him back... again, as long as he's still fair game.

This is where it sucks to be a moderator. Lets look at the facts:

1) Horns gets teased. (who cares what led to it or wheather it was deserved. He isn't the first or the last person on this board ever to be teased. . . and even his most ardent supporters would have to admit some of it was brought on himself)

2) Horns tells Blacky to do something we'd all prefer not to have the mental image of.

3) Skydog bans HM, and says he needs to investigate what went on. (Note, because of later actions on the part of HM, we'll NEVER know what Skydog would or wouldn't have done)

4) HM begs Skydog for PM access so he can get important information about being a dad.

5) Skydog grants that access, which HM promptly uses to mass mail members of the forum. Some get hate mail, some get thank you mail. . . but that was NOT why HM was granted access to PM's.

6) Skydog gets wind of what happened, determines HM abused HIS trust and throws HM off of the board for good.

Now I ask anyone here, where did Skydog fail? No, he didn't jump in and defend HM when he was being teased, but others on this board get teased as well. He also has defended HM numerous times when others have wanted HM banned.

After that, HM feels the need to betray his trust? Sorry, I'm not going to cry for HM. If Skydog ever feels the need to bring him back, I won't start a "let's ban HM" thread. On the other hand, I'm not putting my signiture to a "let's bring back HM" thread either. He doesn't deserve it IMO.

Completely agree, Troy. I'm not sure the original banishment was called for by HM's comment (vulgar and insulting, but not really all that bad than some of the other things I have heard in some flame wars), but the abuse of SkyDog's trust with the PM issue--that was just low. That was cheating in an online league low.

For that alone, IMO, he is completely deserving of a good banning.

Well, I know from personal experience that when I was banned for a really lame reason, it pissed me off a great deal. I like this board a lot, and to get banned for such a stupid reason (posting an article for Mr. Skippy that stated the Angels were increasing payroll...and not even including my own thoughts, just posting the article!) just drove me nuts.

Of course ... SkyDog didn't say HM could only use PMs for certain purposes. And HM may very well have received that advice, right? But, I didn't hear anything about SkyDog limiting PMs to that purpose.

When SkyDog banned me, he blocked my PM access. I believe PM should remain on even through bannings ... since it is private and messages can be denied.

As for being teased, well, lets not go there. :D

I say bring HM back. Sure he can be reckless, crude, offensive, etc. But I can name at least one other person who may not be well liked ... **points at self**

I think SkyDog had a right to ban him if he thought his trust was abused, but those who said some totally uncalled for things should be looked into as well.

Yes, those are the terrible things said in the Daddy thread. They were taken directly from a post where HM blew up and threw a fit saying he was being persecuted.

How those comments turned into HM's family being insulted and his wife's honor destroyed is completely beyond me. Again, I'll reiterate, I don't care wheather HM is here or not. My preference is that he stay away, but I'm not asking that his ban be permanent, that's for Skydog to judge.

I just think it is amusing he's being turned into this martyr who had no other choice but to fight back.

In no particular order:

1) The quote about HM's daughter being treated like he suggested we treat women was funny. It was also well after HM had blown up. No, it wans't a direct attack on his family. It's REALLY hard to attack a person who is not yet out of the womb. It's also clearly a joke. Nobody wishes HM's children to have any problems. The fact they are HM's kids are enough of a problem to live with. (that's a joke, relax)

2) Skydog IS the deciding factor. He's the moderator. Period.

3) I've never said this is a place where we don't insult others. As a person who has been insulted on more than one occasion by the very guy we are talking about, I know that is clearly false.

4) I didn't play in the league he cheated in. Had I played in it, I would have treated HM the same way I treat Pete Rose. I'd think he was a damned joke until he fessed up and admitted it. He would ALWAYS be a joke to me and I'd let him know about it every chance I got. Does that make me a bad person? Feel free to make your own judgements.

5) The term "fanboys" is 100% out of context. I'm not going to waste bandwidth explaining to you what a fanboy is, but you need to find a new term here.

6) I like how you use the term "you jerks" Who exactly are you referring to? The guys who posted the insults? (note: I wasn't one of them) People like me who believe he walked right into most of them and that they werne't really that bad? Would I then be a jerk because my opinion differs from yours? Interesting.

7) You said yourself HM KNEW he'd get teased in a personal topic. If the teasing bothered HM, he should have never started the topic up in the first place. I'm sorry, but if I go to a place where I continually feel "attacked" and "insulted", I'm going to find another place to ask personal questions.

I have two entirely opposite encounters with Horns. The first happened a year or so back when I was purchasing a computer from Dell. I ran into some problems where they told me my order would not be shipped till after christmas, when I needed it. I posted a message on the board and right away I got a PM from Horns that gave me his work number. He told me to call him and he might be able to work things out. Well I did and he was able to tell me how to get my computer quicker. He even gave me some insights on how to save a few bucks while getting the same computer.

The second encounter has to deal with the whole "cheating" issue. Honestly I wasnot 100% sure that he did it. But as more info comes out, and this is happening in other leagues too, it looks as if he did. That's his own fault, he should have never cheated in the first place.

I usually like to give people the benefit of the doubt. If I were to have an online league I would probably let him in if the other owners allowed it. Given that he follow strict moderation. I have had a few conversations with him over the phone when I was getting help buying my computer. This was all going on when the FOFC'ers were making fun of his affixation with the Texas Longhorns and Chris Simms. What he told me was that most of what he posts is just posted to get people all fired up. He likes to see people get all pissed off at him because at the same time he finds it quite amusing. So maybe he is just trying to see how far he can push things before he gets banned. But at the same time maybe he crossed that thresh hold of not caring what people say to caring. I dont know where this is going but I dont see the big reason he is banned. He should know that people are going to jab at him when he posts so why not just ignore them.

I must say this all is quite amusing to me though. I have finally got access to this site at work and I was laughing my ass of reading all of this. Man do i miss this board.

I agree wholeheartedly with TroyF. And I think those comments and HM's response are at the root of the issue here. We ALL crack on each other. Especially those who have been around for awhile. We talk about each other's families, wives, girlfriends, etc. You take it for what it is, you cull out what you don't think is funny, and you read only the advice if that's what you want.

Look at any thread that started as a serious topic about someone's life around here. The responses are a mixture of honest advice/thoughts about the subject, off the wall comments about squid or whatever is the flavor of the month around here at the time, insults, jokes, etc. Some serious topics get threadjacked into discussions that have nothing to do with the original intent. Some stick to the point, but still contain jokes and such. Very few people get offended by that kind of stuff. And with HM, it was as if he was waiting for the first off-topic response to his request for advice, and then he was off again - where no one else would have batted an eye.

No one here knows his wife. He doesn't even KNOW if he's having a baby. So whining about an attack on his wife and child rings hollow to me. We had fun like this back when the "what if one of us died" thread was hot, and he posted about leaving a note in his wallet for his wife to find about this place. We had a helluva lot of fun with that - including comments about his wife, if I recall - and he didn't cry victim (well, relatively speaking, anyway) in that thread that I can recall.

The bottom line is, he knows what the protocol is around here on any given issue, but he chose to take an every day occurrence and turn it into something more than that, simply because of who he is. I remember when he first showed up around here and was taking shit for the UT arguments he would start, and I PM'd him to explain that he needed to get himself established before he went off, because he had yet to develop a "persona" on the board. Well, he did develop a persona, and it's followed him everywhere he goes on this board - just like the persona each of us has. He has no one but himself to blame for how everyone thinks of him.

And btw, I've been admittedly back and forth on HM, offering substantive advice/thoughts, while also taking shots when I thought it was warranted. He and I have had some spirited debates about a number of issues, like his dating advice. I didn't mind that at all. But his victim mentality and unwillingness to let things roll off his back honestly grated on me. For the most part, I let others call him on it, but still made my feelings known when the issues arose. Funny enough, he chose to send me the "Thanks" PM for some reason, I assume because my last response in the child thread was real advice.

Putting aside the latest incident with SD, I don't mind having him around. But what happened between him and SD is between them, andsince Sd is the moderator, I give him the benefit of the doubt. The issue here isn't whether he should be allowed back because his conduct on this board wasn't all that bad. As I understand it, it's because of the recent abuse of SD's willingness to let him respond to a PM. That's another issue entirely and if it serves as the basis for his ban, then the rest really doesn't matter.

Lets be honest here. Who secretly didn't enjoy HM being around on this board. Since I am fairly new here I'm just going on recent discussions, but he seemed to be FOFC's guilty pleasure. You know ... like going home to watch Jerry Springer at lunch or something like that. You know why we watch or in this case read stuff like that . . . Becuase inside we're thinking ... "where does that freak come up with this stuff?" We'll miss him just like we miss all of our guilty pleasures once we give them up. Hell I say bring him back just for the humor (or for our English friends humour).

HMs problem was his tone. His advice always came with calling people wussys. He was inviting flaming becuase he knew that using the term "wussy" would inflame people. If he were really sincere in trying to help people then he would have approached it like this. "Hey guys, here's an approach I've used that has worked for me and some others. Maybe you ought ot check it out and here are some details of it." Wihtout going into the insults.

Also, what is this cheating incident people are talking about? I think some of the new posters should hear of it so we can fully understand the Horns saga.

I don't particularly see eye-to-eye with SkyDog on his moderation of this forum as a whole, although I do accept that his word (and Ryan's) are final, and I play by those rules.

To say that I just support SkyDog in everything could not be farther from the truth. In fact, I hardly know Skydog, I have rarely, if ever, conversed with him, and I certainly don't always agree with his moderation decisions, but this one is spot on.

This is my last post on HM (maybe not of the thread, if Vtbub continues to attack my future wife and kid, I have NO choice but to fight back). The comments about the mailman and others were said long after he threw the fit. The quotes I named were the direct ones he quoted when he first blew up.

It wasn't long after he told Blackie off and Skydog instituted his temporary ban.

That said, after he threw his fit for the minor jokes I gave in my post above, what did you think was going to happen? That people would let up? My first thought while reading that post was something I've reiterated here, if he wants to see truly mean spirited attacks on his family I'm sure there are people who can accomodate him.

In the end, do I find the "mailman" joke all that offensive? Not really. Again, if you think that makes me a bad person, you are entitled.

I think if Horns had ever fessed up to cheating in his league, rather than lying when he was confronted and trying to cover it up, people would have gone a lot easier on him in the end. The fact that he never fessed up in the face of overwhelming evidence shows a lot about his character. To hold others in such low regard as to try cheating on them in an online league is just pathetic. He deserved every bit of mockery he got for it. He brought the mockery on by his actions. I think it sends a clear message to others who might consider cheating in the future: do so at your own risk, and be ready to face the consequences when your actions are discovered.
