Alright, looking to get some ideas how to best replicate the experience of an expansion team/draft (as opposed to going empty cupboard) and building a realistic looking expansion roster. This is what I was thinking...
Begin a new game with a complete draft (random rosters). When it comes to the draft, I am able to select up to 7 rookies in any round of the draft. The caveat is that before I select my second rookie, 32 other rookies need to be off the board, when I select my third, 64 off the board, etc., in theory generating a round by round experience. This covers off your first "rookie" draft. My lone concern with this is whether or not there are too many good rookies.
When a rookie is not available as an option (ie. not enough guys off the board), then I draft the lowest rated non-rookie P/K, who I will cut.
When it comes to the expansion part of the draft, I can start selecting veteran players somewhere around round 24. How does this sound to people, too early or too late? I was thinking 24 provides a nice spot, as it gives me 30 total picks and means that all "starter" level players should be off the board.
So for instance, my draft would look something like this...
Round 1 - Rookie
Rds 2-7 - Lowest Rated Non-Rookie P/K (sign and cut)
Rd 8 - Rookie (ie. 32+ rookies have now been selected so I can take my second rookie)
Rd 9/10 - Lowest Rated Non-Rookie P/K (sign and cut)
Rd 11 - Rookie (ie. 64+ rookies now off the board)
Rds 12-23 - Rookie/Low PK
Rd 24-53 - Veteran players
How does this sound to people? Any thoughts or adjustments? I've been tempted to put in a rule where all veteran players must have minimum 4-5 years experience, etc.
