I think the bigger point is that up until now people seemingly have been respectful of the fact that some of us here are FB friends and haven't crossed the two mediums. This thread was started for one reason and one reason only and that was to start shit. Since Subby has chosen to basically do a 'drive by posting' and hasn't posted since his OP to explain his motives, we have to assume that his only motive was to stir up shit/drama. That clearly falls into the asshat/douche move category (which has been reason enough to get others boxed). I'm not asking for anyone to get boxed, I'm suggesting that this thread is useless to the community as a whole and should be dealt with appropriately. I don't care to soil the Threads image anymore than it has, so I'll post my final two cents and move on. You can't really ban people for asshatishness and douchebaggery when mods are committing those sins as well. And taking action without owning what you have done and providing any explanation or rules for the future are both of those things.

I know some mods have claimed they don't explain things because people still talk back. Frankly, the "boardmageddon" is twice as bad when you don't explain it. Unless it is hidden somewhere, we still don't know the precise reason why so many posts were deleted. The only remote reason I've seen given is that the images did not fit with the title thread. That's a bad reason.

Did they violate a specific board rule or term of service, and if so how? Were actions taken based on complaints, and if so what were the complaints? Was an individual mod offended by the images? Those are questions that deserve an answer.

Rather than taking unilateral and arbitrary action, what would have been the harm if the moderator(s) posted a stickied message across all forums that said images posted in certain threads, particularly the Cool Images thread, violate board guidelines? Posters have one week to edit inappropriate images from their posts or deletion my occur at the discretion of the mods.

It was said by someone I respect in the Images thread that if this leads to inconsistent modding, so be it. But I will bet the farm that more users have left this forum due to inconsistent modding than inappropriate images.

I disappeared from FOFC for a year or two because I was tired of the political arguments, the name calling and the asshatishness, none of which was moderated under control. I'm too old for this shit. I'll probably leave for good at some point, checking in occasionally to see if Jim has released a new game.

Why is it so important? If I spent hours writing a dynasty or something and some mod dismissed it because he didn't like the content or something, I would be really pissed off. They have stated the standard they use, it's a discretionary one, if they think it would cause a problem for someone in an office if someone else walks by, they delete it. Personally, I think it would be a lot better if they slapped a NSFW on the thread tittle and and a more distinct standard, like, no nudity, but whatever, it's not my board, and I really don't care whether there's a thread here that has hot chick pics or not. I know there's plenty of things I don't care about that other people do, so I'm not saying it's wrong to care, I'm just wondering if it's really that or if it's something else. Because there's been this years-long tension over this issue. I think it's fair to say at this point that any photo you post could be deleted. That really isn't THAT crazy a rule in the message board world, and maybe if the mods just laid it out like that there'd be less tension.

No, they're not always enforced consistently because of lack of ability to see everything, but the standard has never changed. Asked and answered. Over and over.) Subby: I've suspended Subby in the past, and will do it again if he crosses the line. I just didn't find the posting he did yesterday to be harmful.

RKG: Not sure where this one comes from. My opinions regarding RKG's behavior aren't a secret to him or to anyone in FOF MP leagues with me. He is well aware that I even tried to get him to quit the leagues that he's in with me because of his behavior. As a commish, I've disallowed lopsided trading and predatorial behavior in which he has engaged. If I saw him cross the line at FOFC, he'd get a punishment there as well. But I'm not sure I recall a single instance of a post by him ever even being reported. (My guess is that somewhere in the 60-80% range of modding action at FOFC is the result of a reported post, but that probably only around half of reported posts get acted upon.)

Ultimately, even when I was reading nearly every thread at FOFC, my style as a mod has always been pretty hands-off, which also brings about frustration when I do decide that something needs to be done. People are used to getting away with stuff, and when they don't get away with it, they point to when users X, Y, and Z, who are known to be closer to Ben than others because of their FOF MP involvement, have never gotten punished for similar behavior. I'd be willing to bet, though, that we could find non-rock-the-boat guys whose user names aren't terribly familiar, and who have gotten away with the same behaviors. But because they're not high-profile users, people don't remember it.

I'm not looking for conflict. I'd prefer that I never had to do any modding whatsoever. FOFC is mostly self-policing. The big-time trolls like the Wignalls, Maximus, HM, druez, etc. have long been banned. I guess the good news is that anything we're seeing now is very minor compared to the days when I for some reason unknown to me tolerated those clowns rather than just summarily banning them like I should have.

This just seems like a cop-out to me. There's what, 10 moderators? And there's how many people that see every post in that thread? We can't find one person who's in both groups? Either a post is okay, or it isn't. This whole, "well, it's okay as long as a mod doesn't see it" doesn't work. If you truly want to avoid modding drama, define the rules. It'll be a weird couple weeks, but then this will all go away. Also, in a previous post you said you're not going to "bother with an explanation" for why a picture was deleted, a simple "pic deleted -- questionable" comment would have avoided all this nonsense. I'll admit that those who reposted it should have been able to put two and two together and figure it out, but again, if the idea is truly to avoid board drama, ten seconds goes a long way.

This. I feel like if you don't take the time to explain so people can learn where the line is, then it shouldn't cause a boxing. That's why people get up in arms...cuz it seems like they're being boxed for no reason they can figure out.
