Followup poll: Which do you prefer: Houston or Houstan?

Have to go with Oilers, solely because I used to run with them in Madden back in the Super Nintendo days. I think it was solely due to their uniform colours.

And, IMO, Houstan shits all over Houston.

Agreed, x2.

Oilers. Wish Houston could've kept the name, colors and records and continued on when they re-entered the league via expansion.

The Dean Houstons?

Unlucky that Bud moved the Oilers first. I think the NFL might have finagled a Cleveland/Baltimore-like deal if he'd moved after Modell had.

I got excited yesterday when I saw a clip of the TEN/MIN game and thought I saw light blue numbers for a split second, thinking the Titans might be wearing Oilers throwbacks. So...Oilers.

Why is it that Modell was so vilified while Adams, Bidwill get off relatively unscathed?

In Houston, I'm pretty sure Bud is still hated

Among the Browns, Oilers, and Cards, the Browns were the only club with a history worth remembering (discounting Houston's early AFL success and the '47 NFL title in Chicago, I guess).

So hypothetically, if the Lions moved...

(or, as was a possibility in the 80s, the Eagles)

Anyone with an appreciation of history will always favor the original, IMO. Voted for Texans because that's what it is and it's not going to change now.

I think the Texans were the original team, but they moved and became the Kansas City Chiefs.

That was the Dallas Texas, thank you very much. Do not confuse Dallas = Houston :D

Bud is still hated, but mostly we were just glad to get rid of him. seriously we got a new team minus that huge asshole, we came out ahead. plus Adams and bidwell are away from the east coast media, so they get slack for that

Loved the Oilers as a kid, those were great teams in the late 80's/early 90's. Texans just feel like such a generic team.

Houston Texans sounds like a team name in a bad sports movie.

(Not so) cleverly named after the departed NHL team. But the alternative was the Denver Bears after the longtime AAA team, so...in that respect they made the right choice.

I was a huge fan of the Moon-era Oilers as a kid, and I continued to cheer the Titans in Tennessee. If the Texans became the Oilers again though... I'd probably still have to stay loyal to Tennessee but it would be tough. But Oilers > Texans, for sure.

Definitely prefer the Oilers over Texans. Texans just sounds like they thought for 5 minutes and figured it was the best they could do.

The late 70's rivalry with the Steelers was one of the NFLs greatest, they just couldn't find a way to beat 'em, although the controversial incompletion in the endzone in '79 (IIRC) should have got them into the SuperBowl.

And I always loved the logo. Simple, but it worked for me. Earl Campbell, Dan Pastorini, Luv Ya Blue. Shoulda stayed.

They lost that game 27-13. They were down 17-10 when the bad call was made. But there's no evidence that their defense would've stopped Pittsburgh from scoring another ten points or that their offense would've scored again.

It was a bad call, but its not like the final score was 27-26 or even 27-23.

Exactly. The refs didn't give up 161 yards of rushing in that game while only getting 24. It was a bad call (though a tough one), but it didn't prevent Houston from winning. Pittsburgh was simply the better team.

Isn't Houstan one of those 'Stan republics that used to be part of the USSR?

They might have oil there. We should invade......

I have to say, I prefer Texans to Oilers. Every Texan I've known has been charming, and had a pleasant looking face. I've found that a good number of Oilers are overweight, and think they just ooooown the room.

Yes, certainly. I prefer Texans.
