My family is going to be relocating from NJ to Alpharetta soon and we have been down looking at houses a few times but didn't find anything. We are going to have to rent now short term and was trying to get insight if anyone new about apt complexes. We found a good deal on a 3br townhouse in John's Creek area and the reviews online are good and bad. We have 2 young children and are looking for a nice safe place/location. We are not going to be able to go back down and look at it before we move. I was hoping someone here might have insight. Please respond or PM me and I'll give the specific development.
Thank you

I'd always suggest staying somewhere flexible (hotel/motel?) for a week or two if I was in your situation ... that would give you a chance to get a feel for the lay of the land and where you might be comfortable ... otherwise you could be stuck somewhere grim for a while.

I lived about 15 minutes from there, but unfortunately that was 20-30 years ago, so I am not much help I am afraid. Most of what is Alpharetta now did not even exist when I lived there.

I live in the ATL, having moved down here from NJ :) No Alpharetta though, it's kind of far...

Unless something has changed significantly, it would be hard to find a "bad" area in Alpharetta.

"Far" is a relative term in the ATL ;)

I was there on business a few months ago. Seems nice enough. The downtown area is pretty with some good restaurants and there was some family event going on in the square during the middle of the week.
Definitely seems like traffic was a problem due to single lane roads and stop signs.

Agreed. I lived in the western edge of Norcross right on the edge of Roswell/Alpharetta in'07/'08 (and commuted daily to work in Alpharetta) and I can't think of any parts of Alpharetta I would call "bad."

Isn't far a relative term everywhere?

True dat. I actually have a friend who lives in Alpharetta and commutes in to the ATL for work and loves it. No traffic (or significantly less) and still fun things to do (for the most part).

We are moving from NJ as well. My wife has only lived in NJ or NYC her whole life, but when she was down there she seemed OK with Alpharetta, we both felt it was like where our parents live in Florida (with families instead of old people), with all the subdivisions with clubhouses, pool, and tennis.

Well, depending on what you are in for, Alpharetta can be ok. Most places within the perimeter have clubhouses, pools, and tennis. At least most that I've seen. Contrary to NY/NJ, that is pretty standard for most condo complexes.

I was referring to the housing developments as well. I have never seen so many different subdivisions, all seem to have swim and tennis which seems very big there. I haven't played tennis is a while, but it looks like I'll have to in order to fit in.

Lived in nearby Norcross and worked in Alpharetta from 1998-2002, I agree w/ this statement completely.

I dunno. In this case I meant that an Alpharetta commute to downtown is basically considered light-to-moderate in this market. In other places it seems like the same distance (26 miles give or take) is considered a bigger deal.
