Do you paint your closets?

I was walking down the hall coming into the office this morning behind a guy who was complaining about his wife not liking the job he did painting their closets.

Who the fuck paints closets? So, I asked the guy why he paints his closets and he was shocked that I thought it was unusual. The woman he was talking to was also surprised I hadn't heard of it.

So, FOFC, I ask you, do you pain your closets?

Yes, if only to protect the walls. But especially the closets my wife and daughter go into all the time. My wife has been slowly redoing the closets in our house, and painting is definitely one part of it.

Absolutely. As gstelmack said, if for no reason other than to protect the walls.

It probably depends on the size of the closet. If it's closet that is basically just the size of a single door, I wouldn't bother. If it is a walk-in closet -- that I could see painting. Not that we did with ours*, but I can understand it.

We do have a long closet in our basement that is lined with cedar. That's pretty cool.


* I mean, it's got paint on it - it's not like it's just bare drywall. The paint just happens to be the same white that Ryan Homes paints everything by default.

I am planning to paint the master bedroom over the holidays and I do not intend to repaint the interior of our closets. It seems to me that I would rather keep the lighter color in the closets so that we can see what is in there better with the ambient light.

When we bought our house in 2003, my Dad and I spent two weekends painting the entire upstairs, including the closets in each bedroom.

At some point in the next 20 years, I'll probably paint the rooms again...but doubtful I'll re-do the closets again.

its needed to protect the walls and hide the drywall seams. That being said, when I repainted everything, I did not repaint the closets.

If it was bare drywall, then yes, as others said to protect the walls .. and well, to not have bare drywall.

But, if you're asking what I think you are .. that if I was to repaint a room - would I include the closet in the repaint .. then No.

Edit : But, I don't have any walk-ins. I'd consider it in a walk in with a fair amount of wall space that isn't going to be covered by shoes, hanging clothes, boxes, whatever.
