Laptop decides it doesn't feel like having wireless access anymore -- help?

Hoping some of you smart tech folks can help me with what seems like a strange issue.

My main laptop (a Sony Vaio) is having issues getting a connection from my wireless router. More specifically, it can find the wireless signal and connect to it, but shows it as having "no internet access". However, if the system hasn't been used in a while it usually can connect -- for up to a few minutes, before going back to "no access" mode.

I've tried all the steps on this Sony KB page (http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docTypeID=DT_KNOWLEDGEARTICLES_1_1&docType=kc&externalId=C455228), with no luck.

Meanwhile, other devices in the house (including phones and a backup laptop) can access the connection with no issues. This laptop is about a year old and has never had issues up until a few days ago.

Am I missing something obvious? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried connecting to the internet with a wireless usb adapter?

Typically if you can connect and everything works well with the wireless usb then the problem is pointed squarely at the internal wireless card.

Did you uninstall the hardware drivers and reinstall them. The USB thing is also a good idea.

I did re-install the drivers.

Will try a wireless USB if I can get my hands on one. If it does end up being the internal wireless card, what next?

Edit: I'm actually curious to know if there's anything that can be done with the onboard one.

I had a HP that looked like it had a removable wireless card inside that could be swapped. I'm guessing Sony will probably not. You can get some really low profile USB adapters...I'd probably get one if it's not under warranty anymore.

I think you can get one for around 10 bucks, they aren't expensive. If that ends up being it, unless you are still under warranty, you might be stuck with it. It's not the end of the world but sucks with such a new computer.

My son's PC is on a USB adapter and it goes in and out at times. Now with four iPhones all using wireless at home, everything is going out frequently (i.e,, having to restart the router daily). The solution, for me, is to upgrade the router.
