I'm in a location (hospital) where FTP is apparently blocked. Is there an alternate port I can try or anything to try to get around that? I'd like to be able to work if possible, but I'm going to need FTP to do so.

(It also appears all https stuff is blocked too. That's not critical to me to be able to work, though it would be helpful as well.)

You can probably do it by connecting to a remote VPN and using a port redirect I'd have thought? (PUTTY anyone?)

I feel obliged to mention that chances are your arse would be well and severely kicked by Network Admins etc. if they find you working 'around' such measures though ... what do you need FTP for exactly? ... can you not transfer data using file sharing websites etc?

I had a client who needed to get data to me and it is far too large to email. I just had them send it to someone else who put it on an ftp site that I can access through http. I'm good now.

Nobody's taking the bait to out themselves as a hacker. Nice try, FBI!

I assume you're using the hospital's WIFI? There's no alternative to that? Hotspot, perhaps?

In the future, an alternative to FTP would be a cloud storage service like SkyDrive, Google Drive, or DropBox. Unless the file was absolutely monstrous you should be able to get a free account on one of those services with enough space.
