The old TCY disk is packed away somewhere, so I went ahead and bought a download copy to play until this PC crashes. Guess I am feeling nostalgic.

I didn't think I could get it to work the last time I tried to install it. So how well does it age? :)

I fired it up not that long ago, an it was still pretty fun for me. Playing with one house rule (no phone) made the program-building phase pretty challenging, at least for a while. As with most games, I lost interest one the building phase was basically complete, but a 6-8 season stint with that game is worth the $10-15 or whatever it costs, in my view.

Meh - the massively out of date conferences makes it harder to get into each year for me.

Yeah, I can see that - I'm really not a "simulate the real world" guy all that much, so playing against the MAC circa 2002 is just as compelling to me as the MAC circa 2012. YMMV

I know that this has been discussed before, but since I'm growing a little tired of button-mashing on NCAA Football, I'm looking at getting either Bowl Bound College Football or The College Years.
Can anyone give me a quick run-down of the pros and cons of each game (i.e. gameplay, recruiting, strategy, etc.)? Thanks!

BBCF crashes a lot for me. I cannot speak for TCY. Plus BBCF has a hard limit on the number of season you can play. I think it crashes after 50 some seasons.
Other than that it is fun to play, at least for me. It has conference movement as well so it takes on a life of it's own after a while. I don't typically play out the games, but rather sim them. And it does have a playoff system you can play, or you can do a BCS type of thing. The playoff system, which i always do, is a 16 team playoff.

Thanks for the reply!
The crashes on BBCF would be a concern for me. I'd hate to get through a season and then lose it all because of some glitch in the software.
How is the recruiting in BBCF? What is it like? I don't remember the demo allowing you to get to that point. I know that recruiting is the bread and butter of the College Years, so it'd be nice to be able to compare.

I can't really compare the recruiting to anything other than the games at Wolverine studios. And it's been several years since I have played it so I don't remember much more than general impressions. I liked the game a lot, but for the crashes that would cause me to loose everything back to the last save, and that i would have to start a new career whenever I got to the limit

I am starting to think that I would like to see a new (updated) version of TCY more that a new FOF.

I just wish TCY draft files would be more representative of the players college abilities. That alone would add the FoF immersion, being able to track players through college, anticipating the players declaring for the draft and then maneuvering draft picks to land that guy whose college career may contribute to your FoF franchise. Could add a different twist to MP leagues!

Is it TCY that you can import your fictional draft classes into FOF2004?

Or FOF2K7. There are some things that bother people, though. The biggest issue is that the most talented TCY players (i.e. top Future Potential) don't always get enough playing time to fully develop in college, and that can cause the draft not to look like what some people might expect. Here's a concrete example of a scenario that I've seen play out quite often:
A national title contender has a 65/65 5th-year Senior QB and a 25/100 Sophomore QB who happens to be a dummy. They also have a great o-line, WRs, etc. The Senior QB, with all that talent around him, wins the Heisman and leads the team to a title. But he's not top-tier college talent. He's 65/65. The dumb Sophomore ends up academically ineligible and doesn't play a snap that season. It's not uncommon for a player who flunks out in TCY to decide to turn pro, and he does. But don't forget: he's supremely talented (100 future). So, when the draft rolls around, this guy who threw 30 passes in garbage time as a Freshman and didn't play a snap his Sophomore year is the consensus 1(1) pick because he's the best QB in the TCY export, and goes on to a monster pro career.
This doesn't happen all that often any more, and for the most part the players you'd expect to be stars are stars, but it ruins it for some people.

cool, thanks Ben. I think I remeber doing it years ago but my memory isnt what it used to be.
One more quickie, does anyone have a link to the TCY digital download. I can't seem to find one on the Solesmic site and in that old reference thread the TCY link brings you to an FOF2007 link.

The downloads for both games are linked on the Product Support page.

Yeah, I haven't updated the reference thread in a good while...

We import BBCF players into our FOF leagues that I'm in.
I haven't had many issues with BBCF (although they do exist). Multiple saves per season and backups typically fix. Lots of MP leagues still out there. Recruiting is based heavily on prestige...but not solely. But as in real life a Sun Belt team might get an occasional 3 star player but won't have a shot at the 5 stars.
As a previous replay stated, both TCY and BBCF (I own both and have enjoyed both) are so old though...what 2005 or so? On my newest cpu, which runs Vista, I had to install on the C:/Public drive as the admin feature with Vista would not work for me on the game. But outside the Public Files it works fine. MP has kept BBCF viable and fun for me (same for FOF) while TCY has faded away somewhere (although I did enjoy it while I played it).

I haven't played any sort of games in quite some time, outside of my sons whipping my tail from time to time with NBA2K13. TCY is the Greatest! I may have to install this once again. Not sure if I have the license info any longer though.
