I have one of the first generation 360's that don't have an HDMI port. I have just the normal AV component with the six wires that are different colors. However, a new tv I bought does not have anywhere where I can plug those in. It just has a bunch of HDMI ports.

Is this what I need to be able to hook my 360 up to the new tv?

That dongle is if you have an HDMI port and need to also run an optical out to the receiver. you need something like this Amazon.com: component RGB YPbPr to HDMI converter v1.3 HDCP HDTV: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/component-YPbPr-HDMI-converter-v1-3/dp/B003VJ9RP6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1356109074&sr=8-2&keywords=component+to+hdmi)
