For those near Atlanta, this weekend is Music Midtown. $45 gets you a three day pass to the festival. Here is a link to the site, and a list of the performers.

Music Midtown Website (http://www.musicmidtown.com/)

In 1993, Alex Cooley and Peter Conlon joined forces with the idea of presenting a festival that would encompass all aspects of music, in an urban setting with an affordable ticket price. This vision came to life in 1994. Since that time, Cooley/Conlon have created one of the most successful annual music festivals in the country, which still offers one of the lowest ticket prices of any comparable event.

What started out as four stages on Peachtree Road has grown to 11 stages, over 130 bands and encompasses over 35 acres. Throughout the years, Music Midtown has presented a wide range of musical genres including Rock, Alternative, R&B, World Music and Gospel. The festival has included performers at all levels of their career from emerging bands to international superstars.

I was originally going to go just to see King's X, but lucky me - they're playing in Tallahassee tomorrow night!

If I'd of known about this earlier, I might of made the trip down, at least to see Unwritten Law and Something Corporate.

I figured this would be right up your alley, and you were one of the ones I thought of when I started the topic. I figured 11 stages and over 130 bands, with very diverse styles of music might put you in an auditory state of delirium. :D

And being in Tallahassee it's not tooooo far for you to make the trip.

I actually intended to post this a week or two in advance for people who might want to make the trip. However, it slipped up on me and only a radio announcement on the way in to work reminded me.

Sorry, but you might keep it in mind for next year. They traditionally have some big name groups, some local bands, and some performers you've never heard of. It really is a pretty neat weekend.

wow. I might actually have to schedule a trip to Atlanta next year. I know Drivin'n'Cryin isn't big anymore, but they used to be one of my favoritist bands in the whole wide world.

I wanted to go so I could see G Love, Cowboy Mouth and Morris Day (found out about it b/c my girl wanted to go see Live), but 3 tests and 5 papers due in a week and a half are going to keep me in the dorm for a while.

If you want something similar, but larger in the midwest, go to Summerfest (http://www.summerfest.com/home.php) in Milwaukee.

11 days, 13 stages, 90 acres, enough food and beer to fill Lake Michigan (or the bellies of a million Cheeseheads).

If I go to summerfest can I stay at your house?

You can come stay at my dorm here in the heart of Conservative, SC or Greenville, a 2 hour drive from Atlanta.

Music Midtown was a great event the only time I ever got around to going. The year I was there they closed every stage but one at the end of Sunday, and the last show was Bob Dylan. Seeing all the people from all 10+ stages converge on that one to see Dylan close made for a really really impressive show. Is it always like that to close out the weekend?

I was going to go...but seeing them in my backyard - putting on a full show, not just a 30-45 minute show like they'll probably do in Atlanta - and not having to drive 5 hours, or pay for a hotel, etc. I just decided I only needed to see the one show.

I'm meeting 5 other people who are driving/flying in just for this show, so it promises to be a great time - without having to wade through 250,000 people!

Sure. One minor issue though. At best, by the end of June, my house will be a basement and a frame, likely without a roof, windows, or doors, and definitely without heat, electricity, or plumbing. At worst, it will be a tent on a nice .36 acres of land with a stream running behind it ... or would that be better?

I wish I could tell you. I've never had the opportunity to go. For several years I was living ouside of Georgia and for the past few I've been committed to other things. As always, maybe next year.

Every year I say "next year" and every year there is a reason I can't. *sigh*

Sorry but I'll take a pass on this one again.

I think the AJC defines Music Midtown pretty well in their summary of last year persistent sound bleed, long lines at the portable toilets and lots of rowdy drunks.

To me, this event sort of defines the word "clusterf***".

Note: I'm just offering another take on it, anybody that enjoys it is more than welcome to.
