View Full Version : TCY Modifications?

I've had TCY a couple of times on other computers but don't have it now.

I'm considering buying it again but seeing how others do various mods and such, I was wondering if there was a way to do anything like this in TCY.

Is there any way to do any of the following:

1) Move teams to different conferences (even if manually taking the long way around to do it). For instance, let's say I wanted to move West Virginia from the Big East to Big 12. I could go to Colorado in the Big 12, change their name to West Virginia, change their latitude/longitude to what WVU's was, etc, etc. Then go to WVU and change their team to somebody else. And keep going until you got the conferences somewhat like today's.

2) If you can do the above, am I correct to presume that we're still stuck with each conference having whatever amount of teams they had back in 2004 or is there a way around that?

3) Also, let's pretend you were moving USC (prestige of 95, for example) and they took over another team whose prestige was 35 - is there a way to go in to the ratings and make adjustments? Again, I'm guessing not, but you guys figure ways to do a lot of things, so thought I would ask.

I really think TCY is a great game and I like not calling the plays in-game - to just sit back and watch the play-by-play just like watching my favorite team play. So sad there hasn't been some kind of minimum update since 2004...the only things I'd be looking for are:

- ability to move teams between conferences
- ability to set their initial ratings (academics and prestige)
- be able to schedule all out of conference games instead of only 2

If Jim did the above, he'd never have to change TCY again, in my opinion (I'm sure others have their own preferences but that would do it for me).

I'd also like to see a kicker or punter get in the Hall of Fame once in awhile (minor point).

I would also like to see a random element after each season to affect the prestige (say anywhere from -5 to +5). Reason for that is, in the two careers I played, certain teams would get their prestige near 100 and then would get 12 Top 100 recruits every year, so it would be pretty hard for them to ever drop very far and get kind of unrealistic. Teams kind of get locked into their level, either good or bad.

I'm still tempted to get the game again (I always love reading that so-and-so from whatever high school in whatever city has decided to accept your offer...) but it's a bit of a tough sell with the teams all in the wrong places...

Do others think TCY is very close to being a perfect game and only needs these changes (or what other changes?)

I would also add to the dream list the ability to edit the Bowls and who plays in them as well as eliminating the rule for the Sol 8 teams that when i change them, they have to stay within the lat and long of the state.

However, i think TCY is terribly dated. Every dynasty has one great way to the top - academics, and that's not realistic.

And I don't feel that other games, such as Bowl Bound CFB was a good replacement either. This market desperately needs a good college football game, imho.

I thought that you could only change the lat and long from a school to places within the borders of the state. But that may just be the case for the Sol 8. So, for example, one run through i created the Sol 8 in WV but then added a team in Ohio, teams in Virginia, and PA in addition to a few WV schools.

Agreed that the bowl set-up would have to be editable as well - although in my second career, I did the 16-team playoff, which was a lot more fun and gave more teams a real chance to win the national title each year. Personally, I think an 8-team playoff would be better though.

Also hear what you're saying on academics - but hypothetically, if that was removed as a factor, what would go in its place? Perhaps something like the ability for playing time at the school?

Yes, I spent some time researching Bowl Bound but read how the game can unexpectedly crash. I think there was also something about how the statistics were not realistic (something about being hard to run the ball, or maybe I am confusing that with PFS). Bottom-line, there always seems to be some kind of flaw that really takes away from each game in one way or another - I guess PFS has an issue where the last two minutes of the half and game are no different than the rest, and the clock just runs out with the offense not running the two-minute drill and the timeouts not being used properly. Even if every other thing in the game was 100% perfect, this makes the game totally unplayable.

TCY doesn't have anything glaring like that. It just needs to be editable as discussed (although doesn't seem like that will be happening anytime soon, if ever).

I appreciate that for any of these games it can be hard to get the difficulty right but also don't mind having a house rule or two to balance that out.

In my second career, I played as Barrow, Alaska and the distance factor definitely made it a lot harder as I only won one title in something like 17 years. Although by the end, I started figuring out how to better identify players who wanted to play far from home.

I also recently read on one of these threads how one poster said he only allowed himself in-home visits and no phone calls, which I thought would be interesting to try myself, if I bought the game again.

A side question: Is there anything about FOF (single-player) that makes it unplayable? Two things that come to mind is I've read there is something about the WRs having too much of an effect on a team's success and the AI doesn't manage the salary cap very well...

ZI ijust loaded it up to check for you, and I was unable to move Akron to Tampa, due to it being outside the lat or long of the hard coded state of Ohio. So no to miving a school's city.

I think FOF is a lot better than TCY becaue the most recent version from 2007, alhough old by the number, is polished through many versions.

A TCY 2 is the most requested thing on this boards, IMO.

This, we really need a new College game.....

I actually have a nearly complete outline of a College game, but don't know a lick about programming. I wish I did :)

Thanks for checking that for me.
