Okay, not intended to be a serious deep thinker, just one of those things I noticed and thought to myself "that might make a clever little puzzle." I'm sure I will be proven wrong, as usual.

Here's the setup:

Some time ago, preparing for a holiday event at our house, I wanted to get some holiday-appropriate music for the kids who'd be coming over. I don't recall the details, but I guess I must have loaded up iTunes and purchased several singles - so they are still sitting in my iTunes library. There might be 5-6 songs out of a decent-sized iTunes library of maybe 4,000 songs.

Anyway, here's the thing I noticed. Two of this very small set of songs happen to land right next to one another on my usual sort (Album by Artist). Just seemed oddly improbable... given there doesn't seem to be any particular connection between the two different artists who are credited with the two songs. (No, they are not listed together as both being from some sort of "Various Artists" agglomeration - the correct artists are listed)

I will confess, as a hint in the interests of fairness, that while one of the songs is/was a complete no-brainer for the theme I was seeking, the other one really wasn't. I don't recall if I picked it from a special list promoted by iTunes (likely), but I don't think it would have occurred to me to search for that specific song, like it would have for the first. (Hope that makes sense -- one song obvious, one slightly obscure but still reasonably theme-related)

So... what are the two songs?

is the obscure one from an otherwise famous artist?

If I'm understanding the sorting comment correctly (album by artist), this one will be tough because so many holiday songs end up on compilation albums.

Hmm, looks like I failed to do my research yet again. *sigh*

After some sleuthing (I have here one of them google machines, see) it appears the listed "artist" for the more obscure artist is actually the production guy (company) who assembled the collection that contained it.

So, trying to keep the puzzle afloat, the guy is Bobby Morganstein (http://www.bobbymorganstein.com/). Sorry for the mis-step... I should have known I couldn't trust Apple.

Anyway - a song credit to Bobby Morganstein is positions right next to another song that I ended up buying at the same time for the same purpose. I guess that's the puzzle now. Ugh.

Going to guess Monster Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers.

To explain my guess...

1. Guessing it is not a Christmas song
2. I think iTunes organizes by first name.
3. The hint that the song was a no brainer led me to Monster Mash.
4. Best known performer of Monster Mash (Google helped me here) is Bobby Picket
5. A Halloween mix seems like something Big Time Bobby Morganstein woudl have.

I wonder if Neil Diamond is involved.

I think you're a little bit out of your league here, why don't you move on.
