Probably the single greatest sports owner. Knew the exact amount of meddling he needed to do in order to feel involved, but not run the team

Was he a real doctor or was Dr. just a nickname?

He had a doctorate in Physical Chemistry from USC. He was a self-made businessman who worked his butt off and made his family a fortune. Like Bug said, also one of the best owners ever who seemed to really care about his players.

He was a smart guy. He had an undergrad degree from Wyoming in two and a half years and his PhD at age 24

Great owner. I could only wish the owner of my basketball team was even 100 times as much the man as Buss was, because then he might approach being half the man Buss was.
RIP Jerry.
And woe to the Lakers now that Jim seems likely to be the man. Lakers fans should pray Jerry left a good deal of power in Jeannie's hands.

I figured he was a doctor like Shaq was a doctor but I'm impressed with his STEM degree.
