Would you be alarmed by a PR or KR who was rated 80 in either skill but was rated 0 in ST?

Not at all. Just discourage that player for special teams, he'll still be used for the return stuff.

The one thing I have worried about with return specialists is fumbling. Although subject to sample size, I have benched supposedly top of the league returnmen for top20-25 players. Concerning fumbles, the higher the various bars are, the higher he odds are this player has good avoid fumbles, as it appears to be related with overall ability.
Edit: Anecdotally, and surprisingly, those fumblers all happened to have very low special teams abilty, whilst the players that I moved ahead in the return duties depth, combine the return skills with higher special teams.

I would not be scared but I find the better returners pair return skills with ST skill. I am not sure the balance but I will take a lower return skill for a good mix of the two

MIJB,

Makes sense, I just wasn't sure. One note though, if you set him to 'discourage' he will be removed from the PR/KR slot by rex. So you would have to set him manually to be the punt/kick returner.

Players are just more likely to fumble on returns. But yeah, I'd like a guy who has a naturally high AF ratings if I can.

I don't care at all about the ST bar on a return bar specialist. I have a punt returner in the OSFL who has led the league for years, without much of an ST bar.

One thing though, make sure your #2 KR (and maybe #2 PR, I forget) has a mega-ST bar. That guy is going to be on the field on returns.

I don't even look at their ST bar or Return bar.

I just stick my fastest player there and they usually end up near the top of the league in return yards per attempt.
