I have a TE who I'd like to try at WR. He's a bit heavy for that position, so I was thinking of trimming him down in TC. But looking at the position change screen, WR is not an option for him. Is this because he's too heavy now and that will change once he loses weight? Or can he just never be changed to a WR?

It's probably based on weight, although I have never heard of a TE moving to WR. I don't know if it's in the realm of possible.

Even RBs who weigh 218 lbs convert to WR and lose 10% of their ratings or something like that. You'd have to get that TE pretty far down and even then it might not work.

I'd load up a SP league, sign any free agent rookie TE at a low weight and see if it can work.

I have tried it is best to not do it.

The best i have seen is a rookie in AUFL taht was 18/43 turn and end up a 28 rated WR.

I have tried it in other areas with the biggest surprise success was TE to WR and i did in in MP early on where a guy jumped up to over 40 as a big WR when he was under 40 as a TE. He only lasted a year and fizzled out completely to a 20 rated player.

Again my advice do not do it.

Point taken. I'll just have to look for better WR's or run 2TE's sets all the time.
