Any ill effects if you reduce a player's free agency offer?

For instance, if you offered a player 3 years for 6 million with 3 million bonus, and he does not take the offer for a few rounds, but no one else has offered him anything, is there any negative to changing the offer so that his bonus is, say, only 1 million?

never tried it before, he might reject it outright though

I often do this if I make an offer on a guy and no one else does. It is risky, because you can get leapfrogged easily, but its a solid way to score talent at a bargain. Basically, the fucker should have signed with me instead of making me wait, and I don't mind making him pay for inconveniencing me in such a way.

lower away. as long as its still in the players acceptable range (ie doesnty reject it outright), it doesnt hurt your chances
